Hey guys, I am few steps away from opening film production company, but one of my biggest problems at the moment is the name of film production ... I am totally out of ideas, banging my head for two months now...

We are going to be all genre oriented, and I would like that name to be strong and effective... so, if you guys can throw out some ideas it will be appreciated. Help out young filmmaker in trouble ;) :D

If coming up with a name from your company is one of your biggest problems, you're set, dude.

From doing my own research on production companies and emailing over a thousand of them, I can tell you that from my experience most don't have very creative or interesting names. They stick Films, Pictures and Entertainment at the end and that's about it. I don't think a name is a very big deal. I know it sounds counter-intuitive.

Go with your gut.

Well, based on what I know, I would go with BANGING HEAD PRODUCTIONS.

Am willing to provide some suggestions here - but you should provide some background (interest, tastes, location, target audience, etc) in order to get meaningful suggestions. BTW - congrats on your endeavor

I know, but I think name should really be important, and I don't want just anything that pops on my mind... Can't really decide :D

Thanks man! :D

To be honest, at first I wanted to provide some background information, but wanted to hear if anyone have some cool ideas not based on them :D
Anyway, I plan for my production company to produce a little bit of everything, action, comedy, thriller, horror, tv shows, children shows, even some documentary series... Quality for everyone to enjoy... So I wanted something to be cool and strong... We were thinking about "Cinetron" (Sounds kinda royal), but there was production company in America back in the '70s, and there is a company that produces projectors... So not sure if that name is available...  And pretty much any name that we came up, somebody came up before us... (Cinesphere, Cinematik, Cinemageddon)... It doesn't need to have 'Cine' prefix, I am just thinking too much over the name so I can't go further.. :(

How did you come to be in this position, if you don't mind? I imagine a production company requires a lot of money/investors. You must be a long-time producer, right?

Anyone can start a production company. Mine is called Swamp Tales Films. Dena's is Pale Yellow productions. Rick's is Scar Tissue Films. Heretic's is California Balloons.

IMO, in regards to the OP, I think you should use something that feels like it connects or means something to you. Most people don't care what the name of the production company is.

Good Luck!  :)

I must be confused on what the term means, I was imagining some high-faluting studio like Universal. Studio/prod company is different?

A production company is a company that produces films...

That can be a small independent company just starting out or something bigger well funded. Most companies I know started small on a shoestring budget and grew from there. Mine used to be an LLC and we started with documentaries and a reality show. It never took off and now I only do short films as a hobby. Some people I know work really hard at it and their goal is to become a Hollywood studio. My guess is that there probably are 1000s of little production companies in Hollywood alone. I could be wrong of course...

To be honest, I think that finding a name for a production company is by far the most unimportant thing in filmmaking. Neither the audience nor the employees care about that, not to mention the distributors...

So I could film a video of a dog on my phone tomorrow and say it's my production company's (Doggone Pictures) first release?

You'd look like a moron, but you could...

Most people come up with a name, make some films. If the productions get bigger and your budget gets bigger, you'll most likely want to protect yourself and your assets by starting an LLC at least. That costs around $250.

Mandar Productions.

You wanted something strong - it means "to command" in Spanish.

Plus it was the cologne that Oscar Madison was selling for a very young Albert Brooks in THE ODD COUPLE. And you can't get cooler than that.

That's actually quite good.

For me, should I ever create a company it is definitely going to be named:

Art Vandelay Productions
