Not going to be revealed today.

Despite this fact, the January 2017 One Week Challenge is officially open.

With this announcement, I would ask that anybody who's willing to participate in this OWC, please send me a PM, acknowledging that you're RSVPing, before the challenge is revealed on Friday, January 20th.

I would like to note that, even if there's the most remote chance that you're planning to join this OWC, please send me that PM. If you don't RSVP for the OWC, you will be disqualified and I don't want to see that happen to anyone who wants to participate.

Please don't hate me. This has all been planned out and I promise you, it will be worth it. =)

Someone is going to pull you up on the header being 2016, even though the other header says 2017, and your opening thread content is 2017... It may as well be me.   ;D

Anyway, typical anticlimax Blonde, that it's not till next week.
I see you've learnt well from The Don about building excitement and suspense.

Very interesting nonetheless...

I'm back from the dead.  Like a Jason movie.  Or that rash...  Not sure which one fits me better...

I have RSVP and hope to enter...

I fixed that.

And, yes.  Interesting.  I am curious to see how this plays out.

Aw, the date got changed? That was actually an inside joke, but it was actually nice to have seen people point it out so early.

That said, yes, there is a week of open registration into the 2017 OWC before the topic is revealed. Once the challenge opens, you can still enter (if you haven't already), but still have to send me the PM, about you entering. There is a reason, I promise you. =)

Can we team up?
Posted by: MarkItZero, January 14th, 2017, 11:45am; Reply: 9
There was a 1% chance I'd be in, now it's more like 10%. I really wanna know what OWC theme is so awesome Sean was willing to risk getting mauled by an angry mob with pitchforks.

The topic/setup for this OWC forbids team-ups. Sorry, Dena. On the next one I do, we should be back to business as usual. However, this one is a no-go.

Please, for the love of God, don't get your hopes up. It's nothing that's overly special. I just wanted to try something really different. Either it's a success or a dismal failure. Hoping for the former. Lol.

That said, I was certainly mauled by the angry mob with the pitchforks in my last OWC, so I'm hoping for a big comeback this go-around. =)

Also, just in case anybody's interested, we currently have 18 RSVPs. Normally we go to about 30-35, so it's shaping up to be a busy one this time.

Is this so you can say:

I didn't want to run an OWC, but I have reservations....?

Not sure if I am in yet - balancing grand kids - will know soon

Well, Dave, just send the RSVP. You're not guaranteeing that you're going to participate, only reserving your spot, just in case. =)

Oooooh - intriguing!

I have a short script to write this weekend but my interest is perked like a cold nipple, so I've RSVP'd and hope to be able to take part in this.

I might not need to ask this but did you get my RSVP?  I thought you'd respond .
Thanks

If you PM'd Blonde, you've got a record of it, Dan. Don't sweat it.

Be too time consuming for Blonde to RSVP to all the RSVPs. Least that's my take on it. :)
Posted by: Mr. Blonde, January 16th, 2017, 5:57pm; Reply: 18
Yes. I'm fairly certain I've received everyone's who's sent. That does include you, Dan. And, believe me, I will respond, but not for this. I'll respond to you all in PM on Friday.

And, just in case anyone's interested, there are 32 RSVPs so far. If everyone is interested in the topic and is able to find the time, this is shaping up to be one of my most-heavily participated OWCs ever. That's got me excited. =)

That just means the hype and expectations have already reached No Man's Sky proportions. And, if you're a nerd, you know how that turned out.

I'll be visiting my local blacksmith shop to get my pitchfork sharpened.

I might be in. I'm still running Vista and Microsoft/Windows is forcing me to upgrade by April 11. Plus, I've got a birthday this month, so I might be busy as usual. C'est la vie. But I love trying something new with my writing. Maybe a nice Vista sendoff.

Chris, please feel free to send your RSVP, in case you find that you're able to participate and are interested in the topic.

P.S. Fuck Vista. Windows 7 was pretty cool, though. =)

I got w7 and haven't seen a reason to uprgade anything.

Once, when Microsoft forced me to uprade to w10, what might be what you're talking about - I found a blocking software which helped me to keep everything as it is. Though don't know if it's available in your country, just saying...

XP trumped all of that! I was hanging on till the end and will still use my old and trusty PC offline.

Time to upgrade finally though, too many messages telling me I'm running an ancient system. When unable to browse, run things, it's time to move on.

I bought a new HP tower last month and replaced my "very old" XP with Windows 10.

It tales some getting used to, but I'm already very happy.  The speed is mind boggling compared to the crap I was dealing with before.

I'm right there with you.  A few years back I picked up a new laptop for super cheap but it had Windows 8 pre-installed.  I simply swapped hard drives, installed Win7, hunted down the correct Win7 drivers, and never looked back (or looked forward, as the case may be).

11pm? I wonder what it's in Baku time. The internet says 8am. Do we have to be present at the time of the announcement though?
Posted by: MarkRenshaw, January 20th, 2017, 11:18am; Reply: 33
Poop - I was kind of hoping and praying this would be next week as I've got loads of writing to do this coming week.

I'll still try to take part though, I was just totally free next week so it would have been easier.

Yep, should be 8AM for you, Khamanna. No, you don't have to be present when the announcement goes up.

Is regular submission going to be shut down during this again? I just want to know if I should get ahead of this or behind. Seeing as I know all attention will be on this for the next few weeks.
Posted by: Grandma Bear, January 20th, 2017, 1:20pm; Reply: 36
I think Don usually closes the regular submissions during the OWC weeks since the OWC scripts take time to post, but have to be done at certain times. Not to mention setting up voting pages and monitoring the script boards. It would simply be too much to worry about regular scripts at the same time.

My guess.  :)

Any guesses as to what's going on? Are we teaming up to write with a partner? I'm getting a collaborative vibe here.

Honestly, I have no desire to write shorts, at least not yet. Maybe next time!

Even when I used to do playwrighting I stuck with the longer plays. I am just no good at short's lol

Good luck to all of you, though!
Posted by: DanC, January 20th, 2017, 3:28pm; Reply: 41
Ashley, i felt the same way as you do.  However, consider the fact that for people like us (that is on the outside trying to get in ) shorts give you a way to build a name for yourself.  A friend of mine won an award on a short and was asked to write a feature based on a novel and it sold.  She never would have gotten that chance if not for the short.

Also there are benefits to these exercises of the mind.

Hope you enter

I thought about individual topics.

The host could draw lots for each person's topic or something, is that right, right, … right?

Or perhaps some new reviewing regulations as last time.

No colabs!!!!!

Each entrant will have something unique, I reckon...or there will be several peeps per topic, based on entrant #.

Genre better be porn or horror!!!

Sorry, Cameron. Collaboration will be pretty difficult this time around. Unfortunately, I'm going to have to rule it out entirely.

Hey, I have nothing against those who write shorts exclusively, but I also believe you can still make a name for yourself in other ways.

Not being naive. I'm just saying.

I would write a short but I really don't want to. No shade.

It's like when you're acting and you do a whole bunch of community theatre and extra work, hoping someone will notice your talent...that theory can only take you so far...the same goes for shorts. There nice calling cards but you can't seriously spend all your time doing them and not focus on what you really want to do with your writing.

Ashlie,

Yes, regular submissions will be shut down tomorrow around noon eastern standard time.  I do this so the OWC scripts get the full attention of the discussion board, yet those who submit work the week before also get as full attention as possible.
