Did you know this was a Black List script way back in 2007?  Did you know various A-List actors, Directors, and even studios have been attached over the years?

Well, this much anticipated $110 Million sci-fy launched a few days before Christmas, expecting to be a critical and box office success, but nether was to be.  31% approval rating on Rotten Tomatoes and $92 Million NABO haul ain't what all those Hollywood brainiacs were expecting.

Is it actually good?  Well, it ain't bad, but it's far from good in my book.  It's just that there were so many opportunities here and the creative choices that were made were rather weak...and safe...and...well...very Hollywoodish.

For me this was too slow, too safe, and too predictable.  There are several directions this could have gone that would have been pretty cool, as well as several different endings that would have left a smile on this bearded face.

Grade - C

Watched the trailer a few months back, it looked pretty ho hum. Read about the twist on the IMDB boards lol.

I read the script a few years ago.

Movie was what it was. It was just there.

I like the concept and thought they could do a lot with it, but they just made an average, kinda cute movie, where you could pretty much see everything coming.

Not horrible, not good. Probably would appeal more to females that don't really watch a lot of movies.

I think it's made for couples mainly. The question is if there's enough Action for him and enough Romance for her… same time. Isn't that the concept?

Took the family - including two Young's girls - and we all enjoyed this.

I'd call it popcorn cinema, something to switch off too.

Finally caught up to it. The marketing,if I recall wasn't that great,, and I heard soe bad stuff about it- butI gave it a go.

To my surprise, it started off nice, with most of the first act being really solid. One ongoing joke (?) was the question if the ship's computers were really that stupid,or was it part of the damage taken? Did it  wake up "the mechanic"intentionally? Then comes ethical questions of whether or not to wake someone up and, due to the rules of the story, giving that person a death sentence.

Because of the trailer and the fact that the cast is that of Chris Pratt and Jennifer Lawence that's going to happen. Micheal Sheen's  robot has more personality though.

Halfway into the second act I was wondering something. Why her? Because she's hot?Because shes a writer?  Jim wakes Aurora ,lies to her and the two hookup. We also find out that there is a strange class  system in the computer which doesn't make a lick of sense. Not to mention that you can't re-hibernate back- so how would Aurora make the trip BACK after writing about her life? Anyway---why her?Jim could just as easily woke up anyone else he's got time to read as many bios as he wants. Sooner or later he'll find...oh,let's see...how about a scientist?

But this - first you llike him because hes Chris Pratt
then you don't because he's a selfish slimeball. ,,maybe it wasn't a class thing at all. The computer knew he was expendable and intentionally annoys him and jips him breakfast.

Aurora gets in a dress and she swis in the pool. Gets a three course eal.

Any wonder about thier 'dates'is less magic because we seen Jim do it solo.
Then theres two things that happen which lessens the film. First is a story cheat (sick bay has a working sleep pod-just one!)and that ending. A huge cheat. I was floored with anger at this filmjust then. Steaming f'n angry. Toknee me in the groin for good easure, there comes a silent Andy Garcia, billed high and on screen for three seonds. I bet he had a scene cut.Otherwise, why cast hi at all?

Micheal Sheen's bartending robot and the production design made it worthwhile. I just didnt know I'd spend time with a prick, and when he gets a chance for redemption, the powers tha t be thought oit's okay to rob the audience of any impact it would have had.

I was really looking forward to this.

Loved the first act, and then it went all hokey.

Nicholas Sparks (The Notebook) in Space, is how I would brand it.

Such potential to be great. The premise is terrific, the end result disappointing.

just watched again with my girls - we all enjoyed. loved it.

actually i think this script is near on brilliant for concept - find it hard to fault.

i'm curious what people wanted to see?

my one thought is that it needed...more folk. was it too narrow with people?

They made some changes in this movie that was not in the script. In my opinion, the script was much better than the film. I still enjoyed the film though.

That feeling of "Oh, what could have been..."

'Safe' is a good word for it. I'd almost call it a cop-out.

Could have been so much more.

I thought this was a nice, space romance. I loved the setting...well put together...i assume most of the money went into the visuals.
