Posted by: Don, February 1st, 2017, 5:31pm
The Writers Lab for women over 40, funded by Meryl Streep for its third year, and produced by IRIS and New York Women In Film & Television in collaboration with the Writers Guild of America, East, is OPEN FOR SUBMISSIONS!

Submissions are open TODAY through March 23, with a Late Deadline of March 30, 2017.

The Writers Lab is dedicated to developing promising feature scripts of cinematic scope and imagination, in all genres, by women screenwriters over the age of 40, as part of the movement to amplify the female voice in narrative film. We are committed to female storytellers, yet do not limit our search to stories about women.

Here is the press release

The 2017 Writers Lab will take place September 14 to 17, 2017,  outside of New York City.

Questions? Call: 212-679-0870  or contact@thewriterslab.nyc

Still Reading?  As with last year, SimplyScripts will reimburse any member of the discussion board who is eligible to participate the cost of admission ($50.00) and the discounted cost of registering her work with WGA ($17.00).

And, I'm sure that all the members of the discussion board would be more than happy to review your script or logline. Just let us know.

Just heard back from them and they said you can submit a script that has already been optioned, in case that makes a difference to anyone.

Ladies, you should take this opportunity. Especially since Don is being so nice.  :)

Ladies of a certain age,

Kicking this back into play as a reminder that if you are an American Citizen or Permanent Resident, have a full length screenplay and a log line and a few minutes to fill out a form there is no reason not to take a few minutes to enter.  The barrier to entry is a net zero for you.

You miss 100% of the shots you don't take.

Ladies,

We've had our first entry into The Writers Lab 2017. I will not say who unless the individual wishes it to be known. Remember, the deadline is March 23rd. Please consider entering.  Remember cost is not a barrier to entry.

Seriously, though, good luck to all who enter as I've got two of my fingers crossed for you. =)

C'mon Sean! Show us how good you look in purple by having an avatar!!!!

I just noticed I'm red. Some kind of queen thing...does that mean I'm lethal? Acid for blood?...

And yes I did enter The Hit to that thing. I might be too old though!  ;D

Avatars? Pssh... That's for Quakers. Lol. =)

Wouldn't that be cool if you were the Alien Queen?! Then again, maybe it'd be better to be Ripley? (Except for Alien3, of course).

Thanks Pia. I am hung up on what genre to write for this. I have some 'ready' concepts I'd love to write but I wish they had a list of what has won in the past. :)

Dena, I honestly think they are looking for signs of talent. I read through their website and any genre is good. From what I understand, they are not looking for a script to shoot, just looking for signs of talent. The writers they think have that and get to go to this, will be helped to sharpen that talent. At least that's how I saw it.

I wish you other girls here at SS, that fit the age criteria, would take advantage of Don's generosity and apply.  :)

That third one's going to go down in history, along with such classics as "To be or not to be?" and "It was a dark and stormy night...". Lol. =)
