Don't act like there isn't any terrible movies you have not enjoyed. We all have our guilty pleasures.

I'll start with a banger....

- I dig the Twilight saga. There I said it. Warewolves and Vampires fighting. Come on, that shits cool.

- I also really enjoyed Jumper.

Aaaaaaand pretty much anything with Adam Sandler. The guy entertains me. Except his new Netflix shit. That can fuck right off.

Don't leave me hanging

Twilight Saga, I don't know you anymore.

Don please remove this idiot from the boards:p

Brandon, have you completely lost it?  ;D

Funny, I like Adam Sandler in his straight roles.

Hmm, I'll have to think... I do like King Of Queens, still after all the repeats - Kevin James cracks me up - just even looking at his goofball face.

I am so glad you didn't mention you were a fan of 50 Shades. One of the most un-sexiest movies on the planet. Completely miscast, no chemistry etcetera.

As for the rest:

Still thinking...

Admitting to this, I was prepared to cop some flack. I can accept that. But what are yours? At least give me some ammo.

I haven't seen 50 shades of grey. I'm scared I'll like that too.

And for that reason I didn't watch either - I'm afraid they'll get to me as well.

I like Troy! With Eric Bana and Brad Pitt. King of Troy watch the battle from their thrones - I like that! That and all the other things that are over the top in that movie.

I'm a sucker for a good (if there is such a thing) rom com or chick flick, also the odd musical, but not in the sense you're thinking.

The notebook type films
John Tucker must die type films
All the highschool musical movies (I've seen them all more than once)

Enough ammo for you?

Armageddon - bad science and all. I watch it every time it's on...

I do too. I think it's the characters and the actors that play them, but I watch it too whenever I stumble on it. I don't seek it out, but if it comes across my scrolling, I stop there.  ;D

I liked the first Twilight fine. The rest are kinda unwatchable.

I've seen every (non-animated) Hilary Duff movie ever made and every Nicolas Cage movie ever made. Hilary's embarrassing. Nicolas Cage I genuinely think is one of the greatest actors of his generation.

Oh and I love Showgirls.

And I'll second Troy and third Armageddon with no embarrassment. Those are both extremely solid blockbusters.

Armageddon fan here too.

I have quite a few guilty pleasures...Twister, Con Air, Independence Day, Starship Troopers, Face/Off, Tremors...

None. I like what I like. Fuck you. :)

...that is to say there are no movies I'm afraid to admit I like. There are plenty of films I like that reflect poorly on my taste. I'll admit them gladly, though. Always fun, and everyone's got their own.

Deep Blue Sea is one of my favorite action movies of all time. I'll defend it if I have to. Similarly, Alien: Resurrection and most of Stephen Sommers' movies. I'll also watch Bride of Chucky any time it's on TV, which seems to be more often than one would expect. Plus I shamelessly love the majority of Disney animated films from Snow White to, say, Mulan and will gladly watch them any time. Many of them, I consider among the greatest animated films ever made.

I could probably think of some more embarrassing ones, namely from the '90s or early 2000s, but there're very few I actually like enough to come to the surface.

^ Stephen Sommers is a great entertainer. Pure, stupid, B-movie fun with A-movie budgets. Deep Rising on, I like 'em all, I think.

those are good movies though. summer blockbusters in their prime. only humorless, insufferable movie snobs would hate those movies.

i looked through my dvd collection and didn't really find anything that i would be embarrassed about. i'm more embarrassed about the movies i don't like.  some of which are pure sacrilegious

Con Air is lit, hahaha

"the majority of Disney animated films from Snow White to, say, Mulan"

Oh and I'm not even ashamed of it. Some are highly rated and stuff. I know all the songs. My karaoke experience is solely Disney songs.
Mulan, Pocahontas, Alladin, The LIttle Mermaid... Tangled is my new favorite.

I remember liking Delta of Venus. That movie is rated like 1 star on imdb.

And another one - I Spy with Eddie Murphy.

I love Pink Panther movies. With both Peter Sellers (which is fine because these are critically aclaimed) and Steve Martin. These are kind of "not good" movies. Pfft, what do they know. Watched each "Pink Panther" and "Pink Panther 2" like 3 times. The first one probably 5 times.

You guys are all mentioning good action blockbusters.

I'm not embarrassed about any movie I like. My baseline requirement is that the movie have characters in it. If it doesn't, I will be extremely bored, extremely fast and turn it off/walk out of the theater.

Starship Troopers is actually absurdly complex character-wise for a movie about shooting alien bugs with machine guns (and as a military satire). You've got Rico as this rich, arrogant, naive kid who still has a sense of duty... struggles in the military, almost washes out... eventually finds himself and becomes a bad-ass platoon leader. Not to mention an evolving love triangle that spans from high school through space war.

What's embarrassing is nowadays something like Fast Five is a critical and commercial success. Gal Gadot being a girl who drives cars is not a character. That Asian guy being an Asian guy who drives cars is not a character. Ludacris being... oh god, I'm just gonna stop there...

We're talking guilty pleasures, so Starship Troopers, Face Off, The Rock... really shouldn't count as I'll freely admit that they're favorites. What I don't usually bring up in conversation is my affinity for Waterworld. I drew the line with The Postman though. That just plain sucked.

It is a highly derided movie - but I very much liked "Love Actually" . Bridget Jones 1 and 2 were great (3 was a stinker).

Love, Actually is a great movie.

Waterworld, Alien: Resurrection...I'm guilty of those as well.

Blade: Trinity.  :P

Ha!  Dave, I thought I was the only one who secretly like Bridget Jones.  I work with a Brit that says her accent is very good.

I'm a action movie junkie, so this admission is very hard for me.  Should I seek therapy? ;D :'(

You only need therapy if you liked Bridget Jones III - otherwise, you're fine.

I like Cage as well. Although I'd rather he hadn't gone the face lift and hair plug route. He looks ridiculous. He should have aged gracefully. Not like he was some major heart throb that needed to do it.

Space Hunter: Adventures in the Forbidden Zone

One of the best films ever made.
Posted by: LC, July 11th, 2017, 6:08am; Reply: 24
I agree Cage is underused/wrongly used, underrated.

He did win that Oscar for Leaving Las Vegas.

....

So Chris, you surely must be a fan of Younger, given your Hilary obsession. I admit when I came across it I binged and never looked back. Lots of fun.

And I've unabashedly watched Pretty Woman a gazillion times. Julia Roberts is just beautiful in that fairy-tale of a movie. She wasn't really a prostitute you know - she turned one minor trick before Richard, and she didn't like the experience.  And she flossed her teeth after eating strawberries, and would never ever touch drugs.  ;D

P.S. No offence to those who love it but I cannot stand Love Actually.

"Sea Beast" - 2008 is one of the most hilarious so terrible it's great movies of all time, and I am not at all embarrassed to say I've watched it countless times.

There have got to be at least 75 LOL moments, in which all watching literally do laugh out loud!

Most of these are actually recognised as good films of their type - there's no shame in liking Con Air!

Here's one, though: I have an inexplicable soft spot for the original Tomb Raider film. It's silly fun, and the action sequences are a blast. Plus Iain Glen makes a great villain.
Posted by: Heretic, July 13th, 2017, 10:09am; Reply: 28
I love Tomb Raider (and that terrible U2 video, too). Props to director Simon West -- he debuted with Con Air, gave us Tomb Raider, AND directed a hair plug-era Nic Cage flick.

LC, I actually don't watch any television! Missed Hilary on Younger (and Gossip Girl).

I've got a soft spot for The Big Hit, along with a lot of the action movies that came out while Hollywood was poaching the best HK action directors and ripping off its style. Face/Off is a stone cold classic in my opinion, but you gotta love Knock Off, Double Team, Replacement Killers, The Corrupted, and Hard Target, too.

I loved Mama Mia! Yeah with all the ABBA songs - and here's another thought - for me they were beautifully redone. And no, I'm not sick.

Nickolas Cage was awesome in Adaptation. I don't think that liking him is a taboo, on the contrary

Five more I thought of:

  • The Faculty: Josh Hartnett and Elijah Wood fight aliens in high school!
  • Swordfish: though even I can admit how lame the hacking scenes are
  • Waiting...: a really good cast - Ryan Reynolds, Anna Faris, Justin Long. The Penis Showing Game is surely one of the great all-time comedy conceits
  • Not Another Teen Movie: possibly most notable now for being a really, really early Chris Evans flick
  • Rocky IV: I love Rocky movies, and marathon them now and then, but this is the one you love for its stupidity. Apollo's Living in America entrance, Paulie's robot, the beardy training montage in the barn, the Soviet high command standing to applaud Rocky at the end... it's fun bad. Unlike Rocky V, which is just bad bad. I also love how Creed used this to give the protagonist tragic backstory - a far more accurate take is this spoof: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NyWx1CkMTtI

I'm not ashamed! Okay, maybe a bit.

Good topic! There are plenty of awful films I like, mostly because I was young when I saw them but some because they make me laugh. A few I legitimately enjoy. Here are some off the top of my head:

  • Click: Adam Sandler's last enjoyable movie IMO. Haven't seen Hotel Transylvania though, which I've heard is decent.
  • Queen of The Damned: This film is like a car crash you can't look away from. Plus I was really into the nu-Metal thing at one point. It angers me for being such a poor adaptation but it holds nostalgic value for me.
  • The Faculty: Scream with Aliens, just as campy. Enough said.
  • All of the Underworlds: I honestly think this series never realized the potential it had. The films are a mixed bag and I stopped owning them since the 3rd, but they're fun theater experiences.
  • Bride of Chucky: This one's honestly a blast for me. Seed of Chucky just plain sucked though.
Alien 3: I actually like this un-ironically. I've always thought it's underrated (probably because it was the first Alien film I watched) and I admired the nihilistic tone it was going for. For all it's flaws it's actually a fairly unique film. Plus Charles Dance is always awesome.

Waiting was super cool. And that scene when they "add" stuff to a client's food because she's been mean to them is hilarious.
Anna Faris is a great actress. I always loved her, and she brings something into every movie of hers. I think she's severely underrated.

Khamanna, you ever see Smiley Face? It's Gregg Araki's extremely unusual stoner comedy, starring Faris in what I think is her best role.

Totally out of character for me, but I actually watch Tin Cup whenever it's on. I have a soft spot for Kevin Costner and James Spader, so Secretary is on that list too. There, I've said it.   :o :B :P ;) ;D :K)
