I know it's a blockbuster video game adaptation, but does the dialogue really need to be quite so awful? Almost every line is eye-rollingly on the nose and poor.

Some highlights:

- 'If you're listening to this, then I must be dead.'

- 'If they succeed, our world is in danger.'

- 'Promise me you will stop them.' / 'I promise.'

- 'Death is not an adventure.'

- 'Close the tomb once and for all. The fate of humanity is now in your hands.'

- 'Can't be too careful these days. The world has gone bloody mad.'

Seriously? Also, is it me - or does Alicia Vikander look curiously disengaged? Early days, but I'm getting a strong Assassin's Creed vibe from this - meticulously choreographed, decently shot and 'seriously acted', but ultimately joyless and not very successful. at least the Angelina Jolie films had a smirk and a sense of fun that I thought made the first one a dumb-but-enjoyable ride.

I briefly enjoyed playing the games as a youth but have thankfully never put myself through watching the film. I won't watch this one either. I'd rather watch a 5-star rated B-Movie.

I saw the trailer this morning while eating breakfast and almost choked. Amazing that the quotes Johnnyboy noted above were what the production company felt would hook an audience. Another blockbuster flop for the books.

I think there's a disconnect between people that watch movies, like most us here and the audience these kinds of movies are aimed at.

We are a somewhat "sophisticated" audience, while these movies are aimed at a 15-24 demographic that watches around 15-20 movies a year. According to most analytics this is the biggest money spending demographic when it comes to these kinds of movies. I sometimes watch big blockbusters in theaters with friends that I wouldn't normally watch on my own and I almost always notice that the lines I cringe at, most of the theater reacts to very positively.

This is based on the rebooted Tomb Raider game, which i played a couple of years back. Excellent game, awesome graphics and the combat is brilliant. This film is just a filmed version of the game - all the locations, set pieces etc.

Whether this works or not, time will tell. I don't see much point in seeing this film if you played the new games. Its like the Batman films of recent years - why go see them when you can play as the Batman in the Arkham games series?

I used to play the first two games back in the mid-late 90s when I was a child on my first PC.

Was never too fond of them.

It does look horrible. The C.G.I. looks even worse. I have had a draft of the script for about a year and haven't read. I've been meaning to.

These dumbass adventure flicks come with a built-in audience. I am a member of that audience. I'll be there opening week, rewarding Hollywood for mediocrity, just like I was with King Arthur this year...

Sure does look bad, though.

I was utterly disgusted with King Arthur. Guy Ritchie completely ruined one of the greatest stories of all time.

I didn't like it as well. It looked like it was aimed at kids.

It's rare that I look forward to watching a film. King Arthur was one of them. No way Guy Ritchie should have gone anywhere near it. I couldn't believe what I was watching. It was like Lock Stock crossed with Dungeons and Dragons.

Yeah, I agree that those montage scenes were a bit out of place. I think they were trying to make the movie more "hip".
