If I wrote a screenplay that plays in a coffee shop, I would not take the owner as the main person, but rather as a link member of the stories. I would have as a protagonist a nerd who has fear of love, and a woman in the coffee shop that takes away the fear of love.
As a second protagonist, I would take an employee who is sexually harassed by her boss, and is fired because she has refused. In the coffee shop she meets another former employee, and both sue the boss. And in the third and last story I would take a millionaire who has a Vehicle breakdown, and wait for the removal service in the coffee shop, coming into contact with ordinary people who expand his horizons.
The coffee shop as a microcosm of life and society, like an English pub, where all the different folks met each other, and have an open ear for each other.

Doesn't sound like any pubs I know.

Dustin, I am 62 years old, and have visited many pubs in my life (in Germany, we call it "Kneipe"). At the beginning you need some time to get acquainted with the people, but when they see you more often, and you chat with them (and when it is about the weather, the idiot named Trump, or sport), it is as I have described it. You are there for each other! One comprehends itself as a family.

I'm talking about pubs in England. Nobody has an open ear for anybody here. Maybe you were thinking of your experience in German pubs. Yet you mention England. Obviously drawing on your experience of what you've seen on TV.

Dustin, I was three times in my life in England, and I also visited pubs there. And I was in Ireland (in a small town near the river Shannon), where I had also visited pubs. After a short time of the "sniffing", whether I am okay, I was quickly familiar with the locals. However, it took several visits to the pub until they had so much confidence in me that some women entrusted their marriage problems to me. What a miracle was, because then I was still considered "male" because I had my transsexual coming out only 15 years later.
By the way, since that time I love the county of Devon, the part of London (Greenwich), and the extraordinary beauty of Ireland. I am sad that the British have voted against Europe and for the Brexit.
The Brexit will harm Great Britain far more than Europe. You can already see that. The pound and the economy are going down, and social benefits are being cut.
Even if most Germans / Europeans are happy when the British are no longer in the EU because of the persistent cherry picking, there are also Europeans, and I belong to them who regret it.

I've only lived here since birth.

IME, women that confide marriage problems to other men are looking to have an affair.

I hate London. I hate driving there, through there, and parking. Avoid London at all costs. I'm in Reading this weekend, which is pretty close, but nowhere near as annoying.

I didn't vote because I know that the choice we believe we have is an illusion. Things are going to be the way things are going to be... the trick is making us believe that it was our own choice. They needed only convince enough people to vote in such a way that it looked realistic when the referendum was over. A political charade... just like all politics.

Quoted from Gerlinde

You can already see that.

You think Germany is better off than the UK? Of course, you are enthralled by your own country's propaganda. I try to ignore all of that and look at the bigger picture. The way I see it, we're all fucked no matter what. The world is changing with AI and that means the population we have on this planet needs to be drastically cut. The division we are seeing is what must happen if human beings are going to survive well in the future. Mankind is no longer needed as slaves... there are machines now. Whereas before slavery drove the economy, now it impedes it because we don't have anything to do anymore. There are no jobs, even in Germany, as you know. Perhaps the best way to deal with this problem is war. Perhaps the UK have separated themselves from Europe for a bigger reason. If I was German, I'd be worried without the UK backing our shit. France will be the next to go. Germany will be all on her own, like a ripened apple waiting to be plucked. The world is on a knife edge right now... anything could happen.

There are worse countries than Germany or GB, where someone can be born. In the United States under Trump I do not want to be born or buried!

These women did not want anything from me (sexually). They only wanted to pour out their hearts. They were unhappy women, whose men they did not value. I think some people thought I was gay, because even then the woman wanted to go out in me, but because of my faith (then I was with the Mormons) had suppressed all my feelings. One of the women, Erin (she originally came from Northern Ireland) had expressed this presumption (transsexuality), which I then vehemently denied because of my faith.
I often wonder what has become of these women? Whether it my advice, to divorce, and to start a new life, had taken to heart?

I would not want to live in the city center of London either. Too loud, too expensive, and especially too snobbish for my taste. Greenwich was just right for me. And I did not get used to driving on the left until today (we drive on the continent on the right side)

This fatalistic attitude has made it easier for the stupid people of the Leave campaign to move people to the Brexit.
When I look at the investigations into the electoral behavior of Brexit proponents, I note; that the main points were not the EU, but the British central government in London, which was scarcely invested in rural areas (as opposed to the EU), plus the fear of refugees (fear of alienation).

There are many new challenges in the world and in Europe. The gap between rich and poor, the fact that there is less work for more and more people, are just two examples. A third example is global nationalism, the foreclosure before globalization. Fearing that something can not control.
France will not leave the EU. France has established the EU with Germany and other countries. And French (with the exception of the Front Nationale) are convinced Europeans.
However, I am afraid that sooner or later some countries will leave the EU Poland and Hungary because they do not want to recognize the rules of the EU (with regard to refugees) and Greece, because sooner or later they will be broke despite EU aid.

Finally the coffee shop and English pub debate is getting the attention it deserves with its own thread. I for one cannot stand coffee shops. Too many millennials. And what's the deal with Venti size? Why can't they call it Large?

I vote English pub.

Trump is no different to Obama, has he killed as many people as Obama the bomber? Has he joked about stealth bombers blowing up little kids like Obama did? He just says things how he sees it rather than bullshitting and hiding behind lies like most of the rest of humanity. I don't agree with most of the things he says, but I like that he says what he thinks.

Having a different opinion to yours doesn't make somebody stupid. Again, you're expressing sentiments you've been programmed with by the bias news reports you choose to watch.

The main point was leaving the EU. Very few people in the UK associate themselves as European. That's why the £ was kept. Very few were willing to hand over their Britishness and identify as European and this was always going to happen.

This is all a part of the plan. This is why we do not have a choice in the matter. If there is to be a war, it makes sense that the people are made more nationalistic first. This is all by design. It is done subliminally through bias sociopolitical programming.

Quoted from Gerlinde

We shall see. The US people didn't want to fight in the 2nd world war. They needed convincing. So, Pearl Harbour was mysteriously targeted by the Japanese. Boom. Surprise, surprise, America now wants to fight. The French are divided on Europe, and as Europe struggles further without the UK backing, the French people will soon vote to leave. May take a year or five, but the EU will collapse. I am glad that the UK has left. If there is to be a war then my hope is that the UK stays neutral. Which probably couldn't happen if we were allied with Europe.

Your comments somehow remind me of an old Swedish children's film from the sixties. In it, Pippi Langstrumpf / Longstocking (Inger Nilson) sings a song, which rhymes in German:
I make the world like it pleases me. (Ich mache mir die Welt, wie sie mir gefllt)

In other words, your attitude is unrealistic.
And, as for President Obama, he was much better than most presidents before him. The marriage for homosexuals, the health reform Obamacare, reducing unemployment, are just three of the many things he has managed.
And, as far as the "bombs" are concerned, every leader of the world must sometimes do to protect their own country, do bad things. Things that are not popular but need to be done. It is only a question of the proportionality of the funds. And then Obama proved his point. Not like this idiot Trump.
Would you be surprised if you learned that, with the support of the British government at that time, the US intelligence agencies NSA and CIA owned mansions in the United Kingdom, where enemy agents and turncoats were interrogated?
