Okay, I'm a total DC nerd and couldn't wait to see JL. Sure, Rotten Tomatoes gave it a 39% and I didn't care. With all the bad press, change in Directors, re-writes, re-shoots, well, it was better than I expected. Probably 2nd best DC flick after Wonder Woman. Still, only 2 1/2 stars though.

The most distracting issue, and it's a big one, is how bad the CG was on the villain. Wow, horrible.

What I don't understand is the third Mother Box. Way back when, they split the boxes up for protection from Steppenwolff: They gave one to the Amazons to protect on their island; one to the Atlantians to protect under the sea; and the third to the Knights who say Ni to bury 4 feet in the ground. WTF! You'll know what I mean when (if) you see it.

I think I'll wait for the Blu-Ray to see it. The unfortunate thing about this is that every major superhero film is expected to be a shared universe and can't be a world on its own. like the Nolan films.

They are making the same mistake over and over again... Trying to cram too many stories into one.

Batman vs Superman tried to squeeze five stories in.. The Dark Knight Returns, the death of Superman, the Justice League origin and the intro to Wonderwoman and Lex Luther.

Often it's not the writers' fault. In fact, it's usually not the writer's fault. We can be asked to write shit that just doesn't make sense, and our arguments can only go so far. When we're being paid, particularly the kind of coin associated with a project this size, it is difficult to raise your voice above that of the moneymen. We just have to figure out ways to make it work.

I've never watched Batman v Superman, but from what you've said it sounds like 5 trailers strung together. Nothing but a 2-hour advert. The Death of Superman was a pretty good story as I remember it and went on for quite a while.

So what do we do as writers when some exec wants us to include all of those stories in one film? We write it as best as we can and keep our fingers crossed.

And it so, so feels like a reaction to the success of the Avengers movies. It feels like a lot of the charecters have not actually earned their place as solo movies before being put together here.
It's ironic. 30 years ago it was the Marvel films that were terrible and the DC films that were the successes.

I�ve often wondered where this superhero genre is headed. I can vaguely remember being introduced to the world of superheroes watching Richard Donner�s Superman in the cinema (a truly wonderful experience for this child). The next big evolution was Tim Burton�s Batman, and then the marvel movies made them truly mainstream, and now we have too much of a good thing. My biggest fear is that it will all come to a head stop, just like the Western did.

Fancied a rant!

Everything is cyclical, especially movies. I was a kid in the 80s like yourself and remember the wonderful times I had watching Christopher Reeve Superman movies on VHS, Unfortunately the only cinematic Superman movie I saw was part 4, but as a kid, I thought it was great at the time. It's still great now, but in a very different way.

I think it's not too unfair to compare what is happening now to the superhero genre to the slasher genre from the early 80s. Everyone capitalized on the success of Halloween and tried to make a penny. It worked for years, maybe a good decade, but eventually, it wears out. Everything was duplicating itself, but in a weaker form, it got to the point where Halloween, attempting a comeback, even copied the movies it inspired!

I see the same thing happening here with the Superhero genre. This DC/ Marvel thing is just so childish and ridiculous... and the movies they bring out are just so generic they remind of the low budget slashers that just copied the same formula from Halloween and hoped for a hit.

It sucks because I like Superman and Batman, and want them to do well from just a nostalgic point of view, but my God, this movie was just one of the most pointless things I have ever seen. It was that bad. And that makes me a little sad because Superman and Batman movies used to be an EVENT, a blockbuster that would rule the summer season and everyone would go see it.
Now, seems like these films come out monthly and it's just a "meh" movie at best.

Yeah, great to see Supes smile, and be sort of nice, but to make him smile when he is smashing in the head of whatevertheeviulguyiscalled just deletes that whole thing. He does not take pleasure in killing anything, that's his character, he always tries to find someway to not kill. These motherfuckers have him as a sadist taking pleasure from whacking the villain to death. Just makes no sense. Yes, Superman, please smile when saving people, Please smile when with other normal people. That's great to see! Please don't smile like the villain from A Serbian Film when you're killing something. It's just so out of whack,

Anyways, off to watch Superman 4 peace speech. Those four movies might sink in quality but at least the main character keeps consistent. This new Superman is a complete schizo, haha :)

Quest for peace I didn’t like at all, except the Gene Hackman scenes. I remember this one because the league nation building scenes were shot near my old high school in, Wembley, London. The film is so cheap and it shows. The guy who plays lex’s nephew said that while they were filming, Christopher Reeve told him in private that the film was going to be bad.

The problem is Zack Snyder. They seem to have put the entire DC universe in his hands. He’s a producer on like every DC film including future films up through 2019. He has story credits. He filmed a scene for Suicide Squad. His imprint is everywhere.

They have good writers involved in these films. David Goyer can write a good screenplay. Chris Terrio can write a good screenplay. The one constant is Zack Snyder and his miserable, incoherent, ponderous story adaptations.

I almost feel bad for the studio executives. They desperately want to make fun, witty Marvel movies (that make shit tons of money). When they saw the miserable, incoherent mess that is Suicide Squad, they ran around doing re-shoots to make it fun and witty. When they saw the miserable, incoherent mess that is Justice League, they hired Joss Whedon to make if fun and witty. They even color corrected scenes so the entire movie wouldn’t look like a fever-induced nightmare.

They hate Zack Snyder’s tone. They hate his flooded mineshaft visual style. They desperately want to make a movie that is not a Zack Snyder film. The only problem is they keep hiring Zack Snyder.

I think they may have Stockholm Syndrome at this point.

which is unfortunate because DC was there for the taking. Nolan kicked open the door and set the tone with his Batman Franchise - but they failed to capitalize.
