Quentin Tarantino has pitched an R-Rated Star Trek idea to JJ Abrams and Paramount Studios and both are on board.

The search for a writer is under way. Mark L. Smith of The Revenant is believed to be the front-runner.

Sounds like Tarantino has also thrown his hat into the ring to Direct the film.

QT has stated in the past he is a big fan of The Original Series and a William Shatner/Captain Kirk fanboy. I'd expect his story to have a heavy dose of Chris Pine and would not be surprised if he brings William Shatner back into the fold.

Sounds like Quintin will be finishing off ST just as Rian Johnson finished off SW.

I though JJ already killed SW with his half-assed remake of A New Hope.
P.S.
His Star Trek reboot sucked too.

If you slid around in your seat to look around the lens flares, the Abrams reboot was good. After that... ugh.

Remember, JJ is a starter, not a finisher.
