Congrats to all advancing, great entries!

Woah! That's some twist from Sean - it was the versus thing after all.

Congrats to the ones advancing. It was a really good one. I'm glad I was not in, wouldn't be able to come up with one let alone three. You guys are super good.

Some of my favorite entries got booed, bummer.

Can't wait to see what's next.

Damn, in fact a vs game…

Congrats to the advancing lot albeit the others were great as well this round, not a shame to leave like this.

I wanted to watch out for a pattern of my likings, ha, completely mixed my opinion was; only the Cardinal did serve the juice in all three.

Warren, how dare you!? We are mortal enemies now. I will have my revenge in this life or the next!

That was fun. Got me out of a bad writing rut. I needed to just write something, anything, but I wouldn't have if not dragged kicking and screaming.

Best of luck to all still in. Can't wait to see who wins it.

Shoot, I wish I'd made it through; the Round 4 premise sounds like fun. Instead, I guess I'll have to work on my federal taxes this weekend.

A word or two on my entries:

Tweakers -- The germ of this came from an case in Virginia in the 1970s involving two teenagers who dug up their father's grave to steal his gold teeth.

Margaret and Charles -- This is based on a short story I wrote as a college student. I just wanted to see whether I could do it as a one-page script.

Rover One -- This is based on Hector, my English cocker spaniel. (My other dog is an American cocker.) I knew it was probably a mistake, but I wrote it anyhow.

Congratulations to those who advanced!

I crushed my competition! - I always do when I am competing against 0 scripts.

Note: I would have withdrawn had I not had a top 4 score. Wouldn't have felt right.

Good scripts by all especially Mark/Warren - both stellar efforts - a tough match indeed.

Good luck to all in the final four.

Warren I recommend that you write a script with 5 characters, 7 pages long and make sure all action takes place somewhere other than a car :)

Well, I really hope no one withdraws now.

Wow, I forgot we were paired. Another round by the skin of my teeth.

For the 2 people that liked my script "She": She, in my mind, was a doe. But I didn't want to come out and say it. It could be super-fantasy "Princess Mononoke" type shit if the director so chooses. More importantly, "She" is Mother Nature and the "Man" hiding in the tree stand (stumpzian was right) is mankind. It is also meant to parallel the political climate at the moment. #METOO ha ha ha. Or, how some men treat the women in their lives...

The rule breaking served no purpose other than to bring the reader to the perspective of the animal. I think it was Warren who said that to him the script was just a deer getting shot. It wasn't horror in his mind. That's what I was trying so desperately to avoid. I tried to make the prose "earthy"....or something...

Anyways, it wasn't a popular script but it's the one I'm most proud of.

I probably don't belong in the final four, but I'll try my best to up my game in the next round! Good luck everyone!

Congrats to all the writers in this round. No losers here.

I'd have to give top honors to 'The Painter' IMO. It's the one short that I re-read a few times and truly had some wicked mental images on how it would translate to film. Top notch.

Now let's see what you all have left over for the next round!

Nice work, Warren. I was very stingy with my five's but I gave one each to A GENEROUS DONATION and THE PAINTER.

Holy shit. Yeah, I see, you definitely had a certain side-line around "sociology" in all of yours. And that's good man. So many writers run from those social relevant topics.

And more than that you got a pretty good delivery.

I personally just didn't get the formatting of the doe script. It felt as if I should make up the picture myself, and that was too vague for me as a movie presentation. Some of the meaning you explain here is already in there though.

Wrong. You so definitely belong into the next round and earn the spot.

Now I'm interested in your track record, what you've written before in round one and two...

Ditto on A Generous Donation and The Painter. Both are low-budget, too - nice!
It was interesting for me to see that all of my four excellents went to two writers - Warren and Stump.

@RJP - what are you saying there... - your entries have the edge and are pretty impressive. I'm not a sports person (in fact I'm as anti-sport as can be) and was pretty impressed with your Willie O'Ree.

Thanks!
In the script for the movie "Mother" the writer didn't give names for any of his characters. They were all named "Mother", "Father", "Son" etc. I was like :man, I want to borrow that. lol

I didn't have an opponent in round one...then in round 2 my opponent and I were neck-in-neck. Honestly, I won a coin flip there. Round 3 turns out I won another coin flip -- super close. And 3 other people were eliminated with higher scores than me...

I feel pretty guilty about it. Almost guilty enough to not put "semi-finalist" under contest placement when I upload the scripts to SCRIPT REVOLUTION...almost. he he he

Well that's some good news to wake up to.

Thanks to everyone that liked my three scripts. All of them were very well recieved by most readers. I noticed a few of them were people's favourites as well, so that's always nice to hear.

I know I played them down in the build up but I am very proud of all of them.

Now as for this round; not easy parameters at all. I know I'm going to struggle, but I will definitely put something up and hopefully I surprise myself again.

I'm very happy to be going up against Dave this round. He is a writer I really respect and like. My produced and unproductive scripts are filled with his advice and recommendations.

I really wouldn't feel bad losing to him and will be backing him for the win if I go out this round.

All the best to the other that made it through.

What do you mean by that? Didn't all of >you< know who's against whom? Can you explain?

I sure didn't, unless I missed the memo. Also, I don't fully understand the logic behind getting an average then pitting us against each other as well. You have four distinct winners based on average alone.

Anyways... It's above my pay grade, I'm just happy to advance.

So the pairs were only clear since literally now. Like you saw, oh I am against James and Im through...

That'd be somehow intransparent.

To my knowledge, yes. I didn't receive an email saying I was up against James. Unless I missed the email.

Doesn't matter, just thought it was an interesting choice.

Thanks for the information.

That's illogical to me too. If you at least would have known it before, it has a Kind of minimal charm to know who you are up against with and can play a certain tactic if you know the other writer, but this way it makes no sense.

'Feels' like a decision in hindsight. I know it's not, but I'd rather have the engaged audience here or at least the writers informed. That's why I said it feels intransparent.

If you look back to the original brackets you can see, reading from top to bottom. who is paired against whom, just like the NCAA Tournament...

What thread are you talking about? Still haven't seen it. Was it clear or is it a deduction you've made? I honestly can't remember seeing it.

Oh, the Round 1 bracket! Just looked at it and now I understand how Sean does the pairings.

Here's how I understand it:
The fact you were paired the third round is a twist. I'm sure no one knew about it. But looking at Round 1 pairings you can see how Sean does the pairings in the subsequent rounds and why you're going against Dave this round and not let's say against RJP.

Mark did indeed.  Like you, I had on idea that we were still paired and actually assumed we were not since when reviewing scripts they weren't paired in the same thread like before. I.e. we weren't voting for the best three scripts between two contestants.  So I was surprised to see the brackets this AM.
Posted by: FrankM, April 13th, 2018, 8:05pm; Reply: 32
I dunno, it was pretty clear to me. Each of the Elite Eight would throw in three scripts, all of them would be scored independently, and the one with a higher average in each bracket advances.

The twist here being there was no way to know for sure which scripts were competing with or against which other ones. This is a twist that affects the readers rather than the writers, because relative-preference-between-two decisions are always easier.
