I'm a university student and our radio station has recently got a new podcast studio which is also going to be used for other recordings like radio dramas, and I'm in charge of this studio. Basically I want to be ready to record an hour long drama as soon the next semester starts in September, the first thing I need to do is find a free script that I can use, so far I've found scripts but I don't know what the copyright situation is so I'm still looking.

All I'm looking for here is either advice on how to find a script or suggestions on what scripts I could use. The only real criteria is I'd like it to have at least four speaking characters with a mix of male and female parts. Also the university is in Scotland, which doesn't mean it has to be Scottish at all, but I'd rather not have a script that relies on specific accents, like if the plot involved going to Africa for example.

The universities drama society, who I'm a part of, recently did a production of Agatha Christie's And Then There Were None, I look to that as a good example of what can be done, simple set up, ensemble cast, great dialogue.

Does anyone have any help they can offer?

One hour is a bit long for radio drama, normally they'll be 15 mins, occasionally longer.

You do get them at like 50 minutes and even longer, also some broken into 15 minute episodes that could also work.

Are there any suggestion of play scripts that are free that I could adapt for radio?

Marc, to be honest, you just have to read through them, have a look. As I've suggested, one hour is at least ambitious for a radio play, and you accept that some are broken down into shorter ones.

Your key to a radio play is to 'listen' to the script instead of visualising it; it is going to be dialogue based and the story will have to be told, and will need to move forward through the dialogue.

Really, you can't expect others to do the leg work for you, check some scripts and then try get some feedback on them, ask people if they'll work or not ... seek and yea shall find kinda tone, okay?
