Aussie zombie movie with a great performance by Martin Freeman.

I was really impressed with this flick.  It's well made, well shot, well acted, and well conceived.  Let's not forget an awesome and haunting score, as well.

This is very emotional and really something everyone should check out, as it's a great example of taking a tired plotline and and making it seem very original.

Really nothing to complain about here, which isn't something I say very often.

Grade - A

"Steaming" on Netflix.

For a second, I thought you were gonna make a pile of shit joke and thought that this was gonna be a bad review.

Completely agree Geoff, excellent take on a tired genre and Freeman is on great form, though I have no idea how they persuaded him to be in it... glad they did though.

"Jeff", not "Geoff".  Funny though, because my Mom always said she wished she had used the English spelling, as you did here.   ;D ;D ;D ;D

A review of Cargo. Eek!

Not looking, not looking...  :o

Cause it's Aussie made it had a cinema release here for a couple of weeks.

Out next week on Netflix. Hope it was good.

Don't answer that.

...

Btw, I don't see a review of The Ritual, on the boards - also on Netflix.

Based on a great book by Adam Nevill.

Any horror fans catch this one? A Brit film shot in Sweden.

I loved it. Well cast, really creepy, and really well done. They changed or rather added to one plot point in the book, but otherwise stayed pretty close to what was a rivetting read and now film.

I saw it. The first half was okay. The second half went off the rails. I thought the creature design was kinda dumb-looking too.

Sorry, Jeff - cultural habit!

Libby - I enjoyed The Ritual too, though agree with Demento that it trailed off but a very decent effort.

Saw this a few nights back.  Pleasantly surprised - I seem to give up on more Netflix choices than I make it through.  The low budget forces it to focus more on the emotional  side over typical jump scares or big set pieces/gore etc. but does it effectively without wandering into melodrama or naval gazing.

It’s subtle, more concerned about the relationships between survivors than getting bogged down in explaining the causes of the ‘pandemic’ - a good choice IMO.  Freeman feels a little bit - subdued?  But he has that everyman vibe to his character that works and I felt for his situation - simple, yet utterly compelling.

The ending took a novel twist - risky as I can’t help but think it could have strayed a little too close to comedy if not handled just right (maybe just me).

It’s hard to find a fresh angle with this type of idea, but overall this is a solid little zombie-survival flick - far better than some of the big budget efforts out there.

Thanks for the heads up on that one Jeff!

My wife and I watched the Ritual and enjoyed it. The ending was okay, we liked the monster. We found it creepy enough. Good creepy atmosphere and overall pacing was pretty good. Loved the cabin scene, very well done....nice and freaky.

Cargo is still not out on Netflix here in Oz yet. Spitting chips!

The cinema run seems to be over. C'mon!
