I suppose the tale has to continue, and that they can't keep going back to the well, so, in essence,  this entry is merely a bridge from the previous film to the film that comes after Kingdom. I had high hopes and I was surprised...how much I was disappointed by it. I cite three to four key factors in this, and it all comes down to story, characters and this insane and hokey trend in H'wood where EVERYTHING must be a callback to previous films.

SPOILERS AHEAD__READ WITH CAUTION

I was curious as to where the volcano came from. Never seen it before in previous films.
I was curious as to why they would need to evacuate the dinosaurs. Assuming all the rest of them are dead on Site B (Lost World/JP3) hey...so what? Dr. Wu's still around! They can make more dinosaurs.

And after the film, I was curious if there really WAS a 'new island'. I mean, if Lockwood wasn't in on Mills' dastardly plan, then there HAD to be such a place. Either that, or Lockwood acquired
Site B (?)

And yes, our heroes can run as fast as dinosaurs, cannot be burned by lava, and are faster than spreading hot ash. There's also no reason for our protags to be there. "Nobody knows the island better than Claire." Not so. She's just the one who's dumb enough to go. Grady's going because he can be the only one to find Blue, the loveable pet Raptor.

But alas, this is not what we are here for. We are here to see explosions, fire, dinos trying to eat fools even when they are about to be toast (gotta have that last meal!) and please shed a tear for those critters who did not make the boat. So sad  :(
Oh that's right!! I forgot! THEY CAN MAKE MORE.

Cliched big wig rich fat cat industrial evil businessmen bad guys.
Haunted house-ish antics, started by a REAL DUMB CHARACTER who we want to hate anyway and WILL NOT BE MISSED. That's a shame, because he's played by one of the best character actors around. The character is like Roland from Lost World just more EVIL. So EVIL you'd wouldn't be shocked if him and the other main villain stopped our heroes and laid out a plan for world domination. It didn't come to that, but .it was getting too absurd. And LOOK. Child in jeopardy.  and ...why did they need Blue again, I forget? I mean----if the Big Bad Dinosaur already had raptor DNA in him. And was a 'prototype' made without Blue's DNA. And Blue wasn't going to be auctioned off.

I am curious to what happens next--- the Dinosaur Apocalypse?
And yeah, you dumb ass brat, this shit ain't like saving the whales.

I just read the upper part of your critique and not the spoiler. And it's unfortunate to hear that. I feared it's exactly as you say, so I haven't taken the ticket. Maybe a little time and you enjoy it some more, as it was with me and part 2 and 3 which are at least watchable by now, for me.

Perhaps it's simply impossible to write that thing again from a screenwriter perspective. I don't know.

After the surprise of Jurassic World, I was extremely disappointed.  I think the concept of the actual theme park with average, everyday folk paying high dollar for a thrill ride is what drives the suspense in this series.  Like the two brothers in the last film getting caught in a situation they have no idea to deal with.

Here, we simply get dino experts Chris Pratt and Dallas Howard running from CGI smoke and lava for almost a full hour, and this doesn't seem to work as well without hundreds of screaming guests driving the suspense and upping the fear factor to the tenth degree.

In the last film, watching the park get ripped to shreds was half of the fun.  Now, there is no park and no scenery.  Just a bunch of rubble and junk and CGI lava our heroes are able to outrun for some unknown reason.   Plus, there is ZERO sexual chemistry or tension between our heroes as they've been there and done that.  So basically, we've been there and done that and this was totally a cynical exercise.  And now they're setting up a third one.  Or is this the fifth one?

The Good --

Not much.  The second half with the indo raptor wreaking havoc at the mansion was at least dumb fun and I had a few laughs here.  But I won't watch this a second time.

Loved the first one with Spielberg, with all this CGI dinosaurs. I’m amazed that they have managed to keep it going up till now, but this is the era of the never ending franchises. We have had Independence Day 2, would love to see Jeff Goldblum in Fly III, even though it would probably be terrible.

Saw this in Dolby on Saturday.

LOVED it!  Very well shot and put together.  Very exciting and even scary this time around.  But, what I think I liked the most, is that it was different and I didn't know where it was going to go or end up, and the last "series of shots" in CA was awesome!

OK, so yeah, there's some dumbshit here too, as others have brought up.

The baddies are just too bad and evil to be taken seriously, and don't give a shit for human life, as long as they're getting their moola.

The eruption comes too quickly and our heroes' escape is too "easy"...or maybe too quick, but definitely too something.

Loved the beginning!  from there, there's a definite lull that maybe takes too long before we get to the island.  Once there, the action never slows up, and the stuff in the house with the badass Indo Raptor is a hoot and just shot so damn well.

But, c'mon.  Watch this for what it is...fun, forget everything entertainment that delivers beautiful thrills, chills, and downright entertainment.  Surprised at all the negativity here.

This movie was torture to sit through. Besides the cinematography, this was just atrocious on every single level.

Jeff, surely you are just trolling with your review. Seriously. There is no way you honestly liked this. Right? RIGHT!? God, I fuckin' hope you are trolling.

Trolling?  Really?

I thought this was a great movie and I'm looking forward to seeing it again soon.  But then again, I love all the Jurassic Park movies...even the 3rd one.

Never saw the latest movie but I never understood why Jurassic III got such a bad rap. Sure, a lot of stupid moves and decisions but it was a helluva lot better than II and IV.
