One thing I've been struggling with is crucial ways of introducing characters in a 23-30 page pilot. There's 5 so far that are integral for pilot. I'm mostly tore on whether or not the pilot be in media res or just an origins episode.

How do you guys manage to introduce characters in such a confined amount of pages?

Esther, the best thing you can do is read other Pilots to see how it's done, imho.

Here's a link:

The first download doesn't seem to work but the others do.

Game Of Thrones is rather densely written - that surprised me. That's a huge cast of characters so you should find some techniques in there.

There are some good podcasts there too. :)

Fastest way to get to know any character is introducing them doing and being what they are.

A Teacher, Teaching, a Cop, Copping etc...in their own unique style.

The same principle applies if there is a lot of them.

Start with a scene where they are altogether, doing what they do and you can get to know them all within a page or two.

Do you mean all of them are involved in the same/first scene? If that's the case, you have a look at good will hunting bar scene. Amazing character intro.

I always believed that a main characters should get their own little paragraph for an introduction. You can detail what to expect from this character and maybe give a little more detailed of a description. A regular character should just get something brief.
