SimplyScripts Screenwriting Discussion Board  /  Questions or Comments  /  Crowdfunding for New Web Series

Hey everyone!  So I've been actively involved here recently on a new web series called "Clean Slate", which is a romantic comedy.  Some of you from the old Movie Poet days will remember Rick Hansberry, and he and I have written together in the past, and we're working on this together.

We've casted the project, have the crew in place, and are slated to begin shooting April 13th.  We just started an IndieGoGo campaign, which you can view here:

Listen. I'm not one to ask for money. I hate it.  It goes against every fiber of my being, because (a) I don't want to come off as desperate, and (b) I've always tried to heed the Shakespearean adage of "neither a borrower nor a lender be."  But I'm making an exception in this case just because it's a project that I believe in -- and I've sunk a lot of my own money into. So there's that.

If any of you are compelled to send a small amount (and no amount is too small -- well, I guess zero technically would be), I would be extremely grateful.  You don't have to give an amount listed on one of the perks listed, you can just click the "back it" button and give $2, $5, whatever. You can give anonymously as well.  And in addition, anyone that contributes, regardless of amount, I'm happy to read any of your scripts in progress or completed and give you a bunch of notes on it (that may not be worth it to you, but at least I offered!).

Just as a background on the series, we plan on having about 8 episodes, each about 8 minutes long.  The series revolves around a self-proclaimed "numerologist" who thinks that everyone's lives revolves around numbers and that those numbers can decide your fate, including who you wind up with romantically.  Again, those of you that know Rick (Dave Troop, Pia, Kham and a few others), know his work, know he's had several things made, including a couple of features, and that neither he nor I would take this on if we didn't think it was well worth the effort.

So take a look -- there's a video there that provides some background around it all.  Hope you enjoy, and thanks for taking the time to give it a look!  Even if you don't give, we'd appreciate you watching the series to give us a bit of a boost in viewings!  I'll have more details on that as we get closer to launch of the pilot.

Thanks,
Gary

Good luck with this.

Where do you plan to host it, when completed?

We’re looking at which platform will work best, whether it is YouTube or Vimeo or some other platform. Amazon gives you an option to upload your own work, but I think it has to be exclusive to them.  YouTube will provide the widest audience reach, but we need to decide if that’s the look we want.

We’ll also host on our own web site.

Thanks!
