While we wait for the almighty Don to reveal the writers choice of this challenge, let's talk about suspense. In particular, what are some of your favorite moments of suspense in horror films?

For me, it's the end of "The Blair Witch Project". I was ten years old when I saw that in theaters, and my mom convinced me it was real. Now I won't go camping.  ;D

This is an easy pick for me. I always go directly to this scene when I think of brilliantly written suspense.

The duct tape scene in The Devil's Candy is amazing.

This isn't the full scene just the very start of it. If you haven't seen the film you should check it out. It's in my personal top 5 best horrors of all time.

I've actually not seen The Devil's Candy yet. I remember thinking it looked interesting when it came out, but I honestly forgot all about it. Gonna put that on my list now. ;D

For me it's 'Alien' when Dallas is in the ventilation duct. I saw that in the theater opening night when I was 15 (I know, I'm old) without a clue of what the movie was about. Scared the crap outta me. My abdominal muscles were sore from being perched on the edge of my seat for the whole flick. I've never really had another experience quite like that night...movie-wise  ;)

My dad sat me down when I was little and made me watch all the Alien movies. ;D The first film scared the hell out of me, especially the air duct scene.

Good shout. I rewatched this a couple of years ago having not seen it since it came out and it holds up remarkably well.

Under The Skin. When Scarlett Johansson invites that poor bastard from the nightclub back to her "house" and proceeds to [REDACTED]

I don't want to spoil for anyone who hasn't seen it but that scene filled me with so much dread and the end result really shocked me. I've never forgotten it. A film I need to revisit actually.

Oh, yes! Agree totally. Under The Skin is so creepy, and different from anything I've seen - the use of the pitch black doorway to hell... It's visually disturbing even though a lot of it is suggestion only and not graphic in the usual sense. It stays with you long after you've watched it.

One of my other fav scenes is in Munich. This scene (below) in particular.

I've never seen Bambi, but your comment reminded me of Watership Down. It's pretty suspenseful when those rabbits aren't being chased. It's like... when are they going to be chased?

Under The Skin actually made me feel sad and uncomfortable. Weird, but really good movie. ;D
