Published in 1982, I first read this book back in 1986 and was instantly mesmerised by it. The world building, the characters, the story, the action and adventure and the emotion of it all enthralled me.
Having already read Lord of the Rings, there were of course comparisons to be made but although there was a wise old man with a beard casting spells, humans, elves and dwarves, this felt more grounded, less fantastical but just as fantastic.
The subsequent series ‘The Riftwar Saga’ and all associated publications regarding Midkemia and by default Kelewan became essential reading for me. I have read every novel and short story about this world which I have grown to love over the years.
As years have gone by, I have often wondered why such a novel was never filmed. I know that some attempts have been made but with nothing forthcoming. Having watched LOTR being brought to life on the big screen and a TV series being developed, GoT and several other fantasy novels being realised, I just want to know when some screenwriter, director, producer will stumble upon this masterpiece and film it.
I have recently downloaded the original 3 book series onto Kindle and will once again reignite my passion for this world.
If you have never read it, I absolutely recommend it.
Thanks for reading.

An absolute classic as is the rest of Raymond E. Feist's work.

I have no idea why this hasn't been picked up yet, it would be a money making machine.

Spot on Warren. It’s a superb candidate for a limited Netflix or Amazon Prime series.

I seem to remember attempts at bringing this to the large screen over the past couple of decades. Same with Stephen R. Donaldson's Thomas Covenant Chronicles. Both would be great as TV series.

There are some phenomenal works of science fiction worthy of a series or movie. It's a shame not a lot are being made.
