I love short films. They make writing short scripts feel less stupid and pointless.

Short Film Of The Week is a great resource for them, but it'd be great to see everyone's favourites.

My current best-of:

Crossbow, 2011 https://vimeo.com/32724080

Slapper, 2016 https://vimeo.com/251397575

Wasp 2003 https://mubi.com/films/wasp

Tons of good ones out there. This one has always stayed with me though, so I guess that makes it one of my favorites.  :)

My favorite, as always, has been Bedfellows

And another good one, however the very end is super, duper cheesy and LOUD (beware), but man the lead up to it is great. There Are Monsters

The Black Hole always stood out for me. Simply story well told.

I've got a bunch that I like, but I'll just post a couple.

This was an academy award nominated short from 2 years ago. I usually don't dig hard on the oscar nominees in this category, but I really liked this one. It's powerful and exquisitely made from start to finish.

And I really enjoyed the horror film "SMILE" recently. They just posted the short that spawned the feature. Man, they spent some dough on it. I'm glad to see the actress who stars in this was the initial victim in the feature. Her performance sells the entire short.

I don’t really get the hype around Curve. It’s well acted and produced but it feels more like a proof of concept or brainstorm. I’ve never liked shorts that don’t feel self contained

I love it's simplicity, yet it's such a creepy edge of the seat thrill-ride. You're right in that there's no actual context or before or after that we're let in on, and I'd love to know how she got there, but it still does it for me.

Two fav Aussie Tropfest entries, that I recommend:

If someone can embed for me that would be great. Can't do from my tablet at the moment.

I'm with Libby here. It totally works as is. Could we know more? Sure, but I think a big part of its success is that we don't know anything. The big unknown is the scary part. How did she get there? What's down there?

First title to come to mind is RED, starring Lawrence Tierny.

Another favourite - Forever's Gonna Start Tonight by Eliza Hittman. Better than a lot of her features, tbh. Have no idea how to embed.

I think I've seen this before Ben, but watched it again.
It is a serious medical condition you know...  ;D
Whew! So well done, but so bleak.

Ben, I watched this Short -
https://m.imdb.com/title/tt1595003/
- a few years ago. Think it might have been right up your alley as the tone is a lot like stories you write. Sadly I can't find an available film now.

Like Curve it's about being stuck in a horrible situation and there is no escape. It starts as Coming of Age but quickly changes to a matter of survival. Unlike Curve we get to know the 'how' they got into the situation etc.

If you find it, let me know. I'd love to watch it again. But read the synopsis anyway. Another terrific Aussie film. I hate when they take these films down, and don't know why, unless they want payment... ?

I feel like I’ve seen it, LC! I remember liking it, but it was probably pre-2016 when I watched it. I’ll try to find it on Vimeo, because that’s where I remember seeing it.

I wouldn't call it a "favourite", but I recently watched this short (based on the Joyce Carol Oates short story), and it's terrifying:
