Don't know where exactly to put this question, so I'll try here.

I'm after some movie examples where the film opens in the past, then cuts to present day.
The opening scene doesn't contain the protagonist, or any of the major players, but someone who is related to, or a friend of, the protagonist. It ends up sort of mirroring what occurs in the film.

Any ideas?
Does my blathering make sense?  :P

Thanks.

I moved this to 'things you are looking for', hope you don't mind.

Um, been pondering this...

Maybe you can clarify the mirroring thing. Do you mean a scenario/setup is repeated, just with different characters and timeline? This would happen in for example a curse type movie, showing a gruesome Cold Open for example then skipping ahead to a new set of characters afflicted by the same curse..

Opening in the past just means the film opens (probably with a Super) on a certain time/year, (cause you can't technically flashback from nothing) then it flashes forward (with another Super) - 'Two Years later' for example.

The Exorcist does this by opening in Iraq with Father Merrin and that scene is contrasted with Chris and Regan in modern day Washington D.C. But then Father Merrin plays a pivotal role so not a precise example.

I'll keep thinking...

Does the opening of Hellraiser qualify?

Thanks Anthony!
That's the sort of thing I'm looking.

Cheers!

Don't mind at all!

By 'mirroring', I do mean a scenario that repeats itself. After the protagonist tries to not repeat the errors of the past, he ultimately succumbs.
