Traditionally the script length has been six pages or 10 pages depending upon the whim of the person running the OWC.

The person running the OWC has the right to disregard the decision of "the people".

With how many there were to read for June's OWC, I'd suggest sticking with six or less. I'm limited on time, so found getting through the scripts a struggle already.

Six or fewer seems to be the sweet spot.

6 or fewer BLOWS!!!  Way too short.

Impossible to really create strong characters and develop a solid story and plot.

I say 10 Page max.

Let's see how it works out.

I understand both sides of the argument here. I guess my vote would be to make it a 10 page max. Those who don’t want to write that much can only use 6…or 3 or whatever.  It doesn’t specify you must write 10 pages. On the other hand, I would hate to see people marked down by others because they didn’t use the entire 10 pages (yes, I can think of numerous times people have sniped about that).  As for the reviewing, I don’t mind the longer scripts. It doesn’t take much time to read 3 or 4 extra pages.

Just my two cents worth.

Scripts Available:
Christmas Joe (Holiday Drama)
Every Time It Snows (Holiday Drama)
Happy Holi-DNA (Holiday Romance)
Let That Pony Run (Family Drama)
With Love, From Romance (Holiday Romance)
Essex (Historical Drama)

Shorts:
Santuario (OWC Writers' Choice)
Seven Minutes But This Ain’t Heaven (OWC Writers’ Choice)
Buona Fortuna
Christmas At The Piggly Wiggly
...and many more.

I agree 100%!  If you don't want to write a 10 pager, you don't have to.  If you do want to, then you can.

I would totally host a 7WC if I knew there'd be more than like 2 entries.

the OWCs are such a great way to generate an idea and see it through, and I always find myself wishing there was a way to help myself stay on task that way for bigger projects

Grace, you should register your interest with Don.
We typically get less numbers with Feature OWCs but they're worth running imho

This one resulted in a Produced script:

Bad Connection by Steve Wells.
The script was removed for obvious reasons.

6 is short and sweet and I can get through them quicker. I don't mind 10 pages, and it shouldn't take that much effort to read. I see both sides of the argument.

I'm easy with whatever page count, there's pros and cons for 2 pages - nice and brief and a challenge to get a whole story in, 10 pages - (as Jeff said) allows for some character work... and everything in between.

We have had a few Seven Week Challenges (7WC) in the past wherein writers wrote a feature.  I wonder if someone wants to cheerlead, say, a four week challenge to write a feature, ala~ script frenzy?

Wow! Ask and ye shall receive!

Grace, Let me know if you'd like to shepard a feature challenge. Perhaps run it the same month as NaNoWriMo (November).

Wow! 12 years ago!!!

I've taken part in a few of those and besides the one that Libby mentioned, Dena and I both had films made out of our 7WC scripts. Dena's went on to play at the Cannes film festival.

The point of the feature challenges, though, at least in the past, is to help each other complete a script. It's not like the OWCs where you try to win a crappy mug.

That's not why I do it.

I already have lots of crappy mugs in my kitchen.
