I've noticed a few writers commenting on their own scripts in the last couple of OWC's to throw people off the scent! Sneaky!
I done that before. It usually backfires- either a) peeps will know I wrote it or b) my in depth comments make it so where other peeps won't comment because I said it all!
Was that the funeral one? If so, I had Henry down for that.
Nah, it's about a woman who mournes her daughter. A beautiful script and now I'll never know the author. If I didn't know who wrote it -not me, be sure of that.
Oh, yeah, I remember that one. Should've hung in there.
I still have some to read before voting. I probably won't be able to comment on all, and I'll have to go back through most to remind myself which was which. I made the mistake of not making notes.
I'll have more recommends and considers than usual. Kudos to all.
I don't understand why someone would pull their work. My first ever entry did awful and I was crushed. I just hung in there and took the criticisms as a bunch of jerks
KIDDING
NAH, I took the criticism to heart and used it to fix my errors and try to be a better writer. Now, I'm tackling genres that I NEVER thought I'd write, like ever.
Last one was a comedy. This one was a drama, for the most part. Yes, there were issues, I tried a very difficult technical trick and it didn't work. But, I can safely say that a year ago, I NEVER would have even attempted that.
I use these as a barometer of how I'm progressing as a writer. Believe it or not, this one still had its critics, Dustin, Jeff, others, but, at least this time I also got a few compliments about how ambitious it was. That made me feel good.
As writers, we have to pick and choose what each piece means and how the advice can help us.
That's why if any of my friends rip it, I never take it personally. I want to know the truth, no matter how awful. At least here, I can fix it.
I'm working on rewrites of a few OWC. I think I might try to fix this one too, simply because I want to have something from each genre in my bag of tricks. You never know if you sell something, or a producer/director/person with cash might not like one story, but, interested in your style and ask you what else you have.
I read stories like that all the time online. So, I know they happen. While I admit that the idea of being pigeon-holed into writing comedies or dramas for the rest of my life would terrify me (Hollywood is very much like the music industry in that they want the same over and over, no chances), I can alter my ideas to be more of the fringe of any genre and still be my story, at least I hope I can. I mean, I can turn a slasher into a love story, right?
Like, Like, ahemmmm Oh, I married an Axe Murderer. Oh, that did bad at the box office...
Yeah, I'd be screwed, but, at least I'd have one sale
Dan
ps, I think people will be a bit surprised at what I wrote. It's very different from everything else on this site.
I'm interested in reading animation, horror, sci fy, suspense, fantasy, and anything that is good. I enjoy writing the same. Looking to team with anyone!

Lols, I'm having the opposite experience! My first one went really well, this one not so. Totally agree though, no one should be embarrassed enough to pull their effort down. Take your lumps, and learn from it, I know I will have to after this OWC!
TBH, I'd say all of the entries here have been of a good enough standard, so no one should be embarrassed. If anyone's having a crisis of conscience they just need to read some of the 1 pagers on the last challenge

To be fair, we don't know why the author removed it - may not have anything to do with criticism. Maybe they had an offer on it, or saw potential for a feature or any number of other reasons.
