I'm sorry, but this made me laugh! Try 40 and above in the shade with no A/C, or worse still nights on end trying to sleep with it and dying for the Southerly change to hit.

Yep, left Melbourne a couple of months ago and those days in summer are absolutely brutal. My first son was born a couple of years when it was 40 degrees for a week, never been so happy to feel the cool change when it dipped down to 30! However we're in glasgow now so actually missing the type of weather, swings and bloody roundabouts!!!

Also the worst was when the big bushfires were on and it hit 46.5, all the leaves came of the trees and stepping out was like walking into an oven, brutal!!!!

You guys all seem to be talking in terms of Celsius temps, which I'm not familiar with.

We're over 100 degrees Fahrenheit pretty much every single day in the Summer, and we were over 120 a few days in June.

But that's perfect for me, as the A/C runs 24/7 between 76 during the day and down to a chilly 70 at night.  And, if I'm outside, I'm in my pool pretty much all the time.

I'm also looking forward to the reveal.  Good job this OWC by many writers!

Brits don't have AC at home and many workplaces don't have it either, we certainly don't have any use for pools, they just fill with rain water.

We're also not used to any sustained temperature highs as we normally get our summer interrupted by rain on every other day at the very least, most often we get our sustained rain interrupted by occasional bouts of sun - especially in Manchester and the north-west in general.

So if we do get a few days of 'high' temperatures then it is a big deal as we have an entirely different type of weather to complain about

On OWC related front, I think there was a very high standard this time!

Just as an FYI none of us growing up in Oz had A/C, it was unheard of. And it'd be rare if you knew someone with a pool. You'd make fast friends if you did! You suffered, (or went to the beach, then be stinking hot on the walk home), it was part of being an Aussie, tough it out. That's changed now, thank God, they're cheaper now, but you still only turn it on if it's baking, otherwise you're still a wimp. Unless of course you live in the West. I hate sweaty palms when writing.

P.S. You guys in the Mother Country are renowned for taking your shirts off when the dial goes over 25.

Getting closer now to WhoWW. Looking forward to it!

I grew up in Sweden. I can remember freezing to the point of hands, feet and face were numb and couldn't move. Even worse was the pain of circulation coming back to your hands and feet. I could tell many stories of suffering in in real freezing condition, but I chose not to. It's not exciting, nor inspiring. I live in Florida now and people complain about the heat and humidity, especially in the summer, but whenever I feel hot, I tell myself, you're not fucking freezing! My dream is to move even further south to the Caribbean somewhere and eventually die on a beautiful beach of old age with my feet in the sand. Maybe a rum bottle in my hand. No eye patch though.

I guess I would qualify as a "wimp", then, because I can't sleep in any temp over 72 degrees F.  Not gonna happen.

But I pay the price with a $600/month electric bill!  OUCH...it does hurt!

30 Celsius would be around 86 Fahrenheit. 72 F or thereabouts would actually be more normal for summer here.

I find it very hard to sleep in hot weather.  I very much prefer cold.  72 at night is hot.

We just moved, so, this new house has central air.  Much easier to sleep now...  The old apartment had one air conditioner and it never hit my bedroom, so, I had to use fans.  It was hot at night.  I typically run hot anyways, I find 50s to be warm... damn spine, right??

You know, I gotta say, getting back to the OWC, I was impressed how many reads each story got.  There was a good mix this time.

I don't know if it was the blowout from last time or Don's wording that all people who submitted had to read at least 5 (I think it should be raised to at least 50%, unless you have a solid reason why you can't, then we just have to understand)...

So, while I'm sad that my story didn't go over better, at least a few called it ambitious and that's not awful.  I just have to clean it up a bit.

This OWC was pretty successful with a lot of good stuff.

So, any guesses on who wrote what?  Anyone have any guesses on which one I wrote?  And I will say, it was NOT Taxi Joe...

Dan

Please read my scripts:

I am assuming the writers will be revealed on the 27th? Once voting has finished.

I want to respond to some of the feedback mine received, and plan to do so this weekend - regardless of an official reveal. It won't matter once voting has closed anyway.
