There have been a lot of comments on scripts that take place outside of a taxi not meeting the challenge.

I feel like this question and answer deserves a repost as they very much do meet the requirements of the challenge.

I think the issue is more that people did not see this post.

It clearly say it does not entirely have to take place in a taxi and that the interpretation will be left to the writer. Don says he "thinks" it should play a significant part not that it must, at least that’s the way it is written and the way I read it.

I feel that anyone that has discounted a script just because it is not set entirely in a taxi needs to have another think about the scripts they have passed on, or not.

QUESTION

“I'm not usually one that asks questions but:

Does the entire script have to take place in the Taxi?

Or does the being trapped in a taxi have to be a key part?"

ANSWER

"No, the entire script does not have to take place in the taxi.  With regard to being trapped in a taxi as having a key part, I'm going to leave that up to you. I think it should play a significant role.

- Don”

'Significant role', not tacked on, is my view.

Just a couple so far with my reading haven't qualified as meeting that challenge. I for one am being generous with the interpretation, as I think most are really.

Never miss an opportunity to try and come up with a great title for your story. It's worth the extra time. I noticed some of these scripts with the most reads and views have good titles, and it's the first thing your reader is gonna see.

After submitting my script last night, I told my wife I wasn't invested in what people might say about it. i'd wriiten the way I knew it should be written, I was happy with it, and...blah blah blah.

Today, that's out the window. Here I am, constantly checking to see if I have any new comments, responding in my head, etc etc.

Oh yes. I have to keep resisting the temptation to respond to comments! I got quite worked up yesterday about one and was going through numerous ripostes in my head and trying to think of how I could respond without giving the game away that I was the script's author!

I just want to say that my comments on these scripts are just generic for the most part.  I can/will give specific comments when the challenge is done if anyone wants my "two cents" worth!  Some good writing going on with some of these.  I'm more forgiving with some of the "errors" in the scripts due to the short notice of this OWC.  I think many of these could be made into a short film, so producers take note!

My Scripts:
SHORTS
Bed Bugs
I Got The Shaft
No Clowning Around
Fool's Gold
Five Days for Redemption

TELEVISION
Father, Forgive Me
Sheriff of Nowhere

I am through 19 - IMO this challenge has one of the better collection of scripts.

Very strange how, before we've written our scripts and right up until we submit, we all agree that it's just a bit of fun. Then once the scripts are up and the first bad reviews start rolling in, how we crumble... like we honestly expected more.

Other writers are the most difficult audience to please... and what floats our boat often comes down to how smart and professional the writing is... unfortunately, smart and professional writing doesn't always equate to a good film off the page. We can also only think in terms of how we would write something and the choices we would have made that would be sooo much better. So, we're not the best judges. So... why do we care so much?

Interesting observation.

I think the caring so much probably comes from a need for validation or, probably more likely - fear of devaluation. Who knows.

I can only speak for me. I don't think that in general, you get more honest feedback in an anonymous contest like this one (egads - think how frank the feedback would be if the reviews were also anonymous!). I see what script that I'll love that someone else will hate and vice versa - so one's own sense of style and story play a big part. Just like in the real world.

I don't know if it's about caring so much.

I'd rather not leave a review at all. It's just I have to - to show that I read the thing. So I say something - usually it's my thoughts while reading.

I like to think that I have not changed the way I review scripts for the challenge and wouldn’t even if it was anonymous.

None of my comments are personal attacks on the writers. They are observations of how I personally think the scripts could be better and how the scripts personally made me feel, or not.

Just got to take what will help your writing and leave the rest.

All the bullshitters would finally tell the truth. Still though, the writers that pm others would likely insist they know which review is which. They'd still get around it. They're only cheating themselves, but for some that's enough.
