Still think a game would be a better use of resources. What good is a 7WC without a theme? All you're saying is take an idea and write it. Isn't that what most of us are already doing anyway?
Okay, so I thought I'd be nice and ask Don if he had a problem this. He said he didn't, however he had planned an OWC for mid August. So, input on which you want to do would be appreciated.
A mid August OWC would be very welcome. Sounds great.
Blonde, what we'd get out of a 7WC is a bunch of feature scripts from contributing members that we wouldn't get otherwise. It doesn't matter if they're all based on completely different things, genres, ideas, whatever. Writing a script in 7 weeks isn't an easy task, any way you look at it.
But what I'm saying is, aren't a good portion of the people here likely working on features now or at some point already?
For example, I'm sure a couple people will start up a new screenplay for the sake of the contest, but it seems that working on a feature you're already on is a smarter play (so your focus isn't taken off your previous script and put into this new one), but then the contest loses its meaning. So, I don't understand what good it would be without a genre, theme, idea, what-have-you because a person could just continue something they were already working on pre-7WC.
I definitely see what you're saying, but it sounds to me like several people are working on, or trying to start working on something they're already thought about...but for some reason, they're not attacking it like they would if they were under a deadline.
That's my deal here for sure. I've been wanting to get going for several months now but so far I haven't even written a "FADE IN" yet.
I'm not going to drop what I want to write and start writing something I don't want to write at this point. If others want to go this route, that's cool...you and they can and should.
I might be up for something to distract myself from my little world for a bit. Depends on what it is, but I'll be checking out what's going on. I might even jump in. Since I just finished that book, I could use the distraction.
I'm always up for an OWC, and since Don had one planned for a couple weeks from now, maybe hold off on that 7WC until the end of August. I'm completing a second draft of a feature, so this comes at a good time for me.
I'm still keen on an idea someone had ages ago, where we gave a certain theme or logline or whatever but it is written in different genres, perhaps randomly given out?
This would be ok for a 7WC as there would be only a handful doing it anyway.
Agreed. Might as well wait for the OWC...hopefully, it appears sooner than later.
If a 7Wc pops up, I think I'll just use it to write my new feature and provide support and cheer leading, where necessary...and I'll complete mine in the same time line.
