I was just surfing the pay channels, caught a quick scene in the American, where George Clooney apparently plays a hit man somewhere in Europe. I've literally now scene a total of about 2 minutes of this movie.

Anyway, in the scene, George Clooney walks into a whore house and asks for a certain whore. She's not there, but the girls offer their own company. He politely declines, says "maybe another time".

Now, there could be more to the story, since I did not watch the movie, so I may be misinterpreting this scene. But what a fantastic way to establish a character's loneliness and isolation, if that's what the scene was about. The sex did not interest him, it was the companionship he sought, with a familiar prostitute. To me that established great loneliness in a few seconds.

Again, I'll have to watch the movie when I can to see if I got the scene right.

Thanks for that. One to ponder, which is always healthy.

It seems to me one of the challenges of script writing is finding that visual way of saying the obvious. You know the old but new thing. Your observation strikes a chord.

I was watching my kids the other day and noticed how they deal with the same things but in a different way to adults. I must keep watching!

Cheers
