Pretty certain this is true, Rob. Originally read about this on yahoo news and then found a slew of articles b!tching about the changes. |

Next thing you know he's gonna put an older version of Hayden Christensen's face on Anakin when Luke takes the helmet off Vader. For all his brilliance, Lucas can be a real dumbsky sometimes. |

There's a clip on Youtube of it. It's pretty much Vader's 'No' at the end of ep 3. Kind of sucks, since I always thought the wordless sacrifice better. Also he's got rid of the Yoda puppet from episode 1 and made it all CG now, and in also the ewoks have digital eyes and blink now. And he's also changed the noise Obi-Wan makes when he scares away the Tusken Raiders. He just can't seem to help himself. It's a shame. |

Not content with losing any kind of talent he had, he's seemingly desperate to massacre the only things he did well.
He did once make a comment that a film is never finished, it's just abandoned at some point.
Clealry he doesn't know when to let go. |

If it's true then George Lucas continues to ruin Darth Vader's character. The guy I grew up with definitely didn't say "noooo" for anything. |

He lost me with the mess that was Episode 1. Didn't bother to see the next two.
I still have fond memories of seeing Star Wars in the cinema as a 15 year old. I didn't see TESB or TROTJ at the cinema, only on TV years later.
Remember seeing the trailer for SW at a movie a few months before it came out and just sat there in awe, saying, I gotta see this movie. |

I agree that some things, such as Vader's sudden outcry, seem a bit uneeded (in fact, it actually creates a slight continuity error, given Papaltine's reaction) and the question of Obi Wan's dragon howl is nether here nor there. Ewoks with eyelids? Yoda looking a little better? Some things are fine by me. Sadly...does does Greedo still shoot first? Did Lucas correct the cartoony Jabba he inserted in A New Hope? (Which, in turn, leads to a continuity error when Jabba is seen in Phantom Menace in terms of appearance) How about giving the fans the change they want- like Boba Fett either escaping the Sarlacc Pit or removing (at least) the Sarlacc burp after Fett falls in? Did Darth Vader put a lightsaber to Jar Jar's throat? Or rather, in it? Noooooooo!!!! |

A New Hope http://movies.yahoo.com/blogs/.....stake-142746809.htmlSeems Spielberg has come to his senses and admitted his mistakes as far as messing with ET. Too late for the Blu-Ray version of Star Wars, but maybe Lucas and other directors will heed Spielberg's words on this subject. |

I really wish people would stop complaining about this kind of thing. "Star Wars" is Lucas' thing, he can do whatever he likes with it. The original films still exist, unaltered, released on DVD and can be found if anyone wants to. No one is making anyone watch the new stuff. |
| I can't live the buttoned-down life like you. I want it all. The dizzying highs, the terrifying lows, the creamy middles. Sure, I may offend some of the blue bloods with my cocky stride and musky odors. Oh, I'll never be the darling of the so-called "city fathers," who cluck their tongues, stroke their beards and talk about what's to be done with this Homer Simpson? |

Of course Lucas CAN make any change he wants. It's his property. But...why? Improving the video, audio, adding a digitally enhanced creature here and there, no real problem. But when you start messing with crucial scenes involving an iconic character, this is where the complaints start. There's no logical reason for Lucas to make a change like this. The scene was perfectly fine and is weakened by the change. And although Lucas is the creator, this is one of those films that's so beloved that a lot of fans feel the characters also belong to them. I'm not a Star Wars fanatic and I don't own a Blu-Ray, so I admit this makes no immediate impact on me. If I owned a Blu-Ray, I'd be a lot more pissed.
This kinda reminds me of when Walter Hill, the director of The Warriors, released his "Ultimate Directors Cut" of the movie, where he really butchered the original by using these comic book freeze frames throughout the movie. Now, that's pretty much the only version of the film you can find. If Blu-Ray completely phases out dvd one day, the original version of the Star Wars saga might be harder to find. These directors need to leave well enough alone. |
