Not sure if I should mention this here as it's got no relevance to the screen writing world but it's had great effect on the soccer(football) world.

During an FA cup match yesterday 23 year old Fabrice Muamba suffered a cardiac arrest on the pitch during the live TV broadcast.  Paramedics had to resuscitate him on the pitch and it looked bleak for the player.  He remains in hospital in a critic condition but rival fans united to cheer his name and this was echoed throughout Europe in later matches.

I just wanted to say that everyone hopes he makes a recovery and it goes to show how sport can quickly become irrelevant in such circumstances.

I had pvr'd the game here in Canada (Scottish by birth, so football is in my blood). Went to watch the game and the PVR had not recorded it. Shortly after, watched the highlights of the FA Cup and they showed the incident.

Very scary and grim. Hope he gets better!

Similar incident to a Scottish game a few years back when Phil O'Donnell passed away from a heart attack during a game between Motherwell and Dundee Utd.

Best wishes to Fabrice.

Yes I remember Phil O'Donnell, terrible. Also Marc Vivien Foe and Micklos Feher.

I too hope Fabrice is okay and I feel for his family and his team mates.

Very shocking news.... It`s times like this when you put the rivalry aside... Hopefully he will be ok.

Good on you, Alffy for starting this thread.

I woke up to the news yesterday morning...very shocking and disturbing.

As always in these times, football fans have come together and all wish Fabrice Muamba the best.

Just tragic news.

Latest news is that Fabrice is making small progress. He is now breathing without any aids. Still a long way to go though so fingers crossed for his recovery.
