Just out of curiosity, if there was a book that you could make into a film, what would it be?

Mine would be 'The Bartmaeus Trilogy' by Jonathan Stroud, but alas, John Madden beat me to it :/

Dante's Inferno by Dante Alighieri if I were to pick a book.
And as for dream job straight up, anything that starts my career as a well known Filmmaker.

Carrion Comfort by Dan Simmons

Possibly too big for a single feature, would make a great mini series

Heard so much about that book. Some film producer must have gotten their hands on it, by now... It's only like one of the world's best sellers or something ridiculous like that.

So many to choose from:

I'll go for a rough British thriller from Simon Kernick called "Relentless"

Always thought it would make a good movie.

I wanted to turn the book 'The Suspicions of Mr Whicher' into a screenplay but it was made into a one off TV drama a few years back, starring Paddy Considine.  It was good  but the book is excellent.

Check out my scripts...if you want to, no pressure.

The Talented Mr. Ripley.

Liked Matt Damon. Didn't like how the character was protrayed.

It's a sin that "Blood Meridian" by Cormac McCarthy hasn't been turned into a movie yet.  Same for "Life of Pi" by Yann Martel.  Both are masterpieces that haven't been filmed (although M. Night Shamalamadingdong offered to do Life of Pi).

The two that popped into my head are The Ring of The Nibelung (a film version with dialogue using Wagner's music as the soundtrack) and a complete version of The Series of Unfortunate Events. The latter is 13 books long and takes place over a very short span of time. A filmmaker would have to have the entire story scripted before starting and shoot them all in one long shoot to make sure the kids don't age too much. Oh yeah, and the baby would have to be largely CG or puppet because of how she acts and looks in the books.

Indeed, Universal won a mammoth bidding war for the project.
And the Social Network/Moneyball production team got the gig!

James Franco got close with the McCerthy novel in 2010.
But there's suspicion that his Oscar debacle turned off mega producer, Scott Rudin.

And Life of Pi is directed by Ang Lee and will be out worldwide over the holidays!

As for dream project novels for me...

I've always wanted to see one of my fave novels remade into a worthy film...
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Watchers_%28novel%29

It's the epitome of "elevated genre" on the page.
And my heart sank at the shabby treatment it got in Hollywood.
I'd love to snap up the rights to that one and give it a proper go!

Regards,
E.D.

Rumor has it that Rudin was very high on Franco's concept trailer in 2010.
Bolstered by Franco's stand out performance in 127 Hours...
But after the poor reception of the 2011 Oscars, Franco's rep took a hit.
And shortly thereafter, Blood Meridian was never heard from again.

So, I suspect that Franco will need another megihit before he can tackle that albatross.

E.D.

You mean his performance in hosting the ceremony with Anne Hathaway? Would that really effect his acting rep?
