Hmmm, pretty by the book affair.
Though I thought Affleck of Quentin would get some love.
Figured at least one of the actor/directors stood a chance.

I've only seen one performance in the Best Actress category so far.
But I do have Zero Dark Thirty in my queue at least.  Tracking down Amour too.

I feel like I should be a little more excited about this year's crop...
But I'm not. There's very few stand above all others type efforts nominated.
No clear favorite to me, I guess.

Hopefully Seth McFarlane will dazzle us with some poop jokes to keep us awake.
Maybe even a CGI appearance of Ted to read the noms for best animated short.
And they can share a blunt and show down on Cheetos while doing it!

Yay Oscars.

Regards,
E.D.

It's pretty straight forward at this point. I think, by keeping both Affleck and Bigelow out of Best Directorland, that's opens the door for Spielberg to take that one.

But, this was a really rough year for movies, all things considered. Several of my favorite directors brought out new stuff this year, but I was just disappointed overall. I still say, at the moment, Argo is the Picture front-runner (although it'll be much tougher to make that case without a Director win), but there's lots of pre-Oscar time to go.

EDIT: I knew Tommy Lee Jones would get that Supporting Actor nod. Very few people are better at playing themselves than he is.

Agree, and Lincoln for best picture. No way ZD30 or Argo gets the nod.

I hope that MacFarlane doesn't do Family Guy voices.  He could really impress Hollywood and the world here...

I haven't heard anyone say 'Silver Linings Playbook' was any good and yet here it is on the best picture list?  Not seen it myself so can't give my own opinion though.  Anyone else seen it?

I honestly hope MacFarlane crashes and burns at the ceremony (more so than James Franco). Having him host the oscars seems like such a convenient ploy to increase viewership. It's not a risk. MacFarlane is a safe bet. Someone who's just crazy enough to turn heads yet tame enough to be controlled, like a dog on a short leash.

I hate Family Guy, American Dad, etc. But I REALLY hate MacFarlane as a person. Seems like such a douche. He's like that funny kid in high school that EVERYONE loves and you secretly hate. Not sure why you hate him. Just rubs you the wrong way.

Havent seen Ted yet. Don't want to because I'm afraid I'll enjoy it. Then I'll hate myself for liking it haha In retrospect, maybe I just hate people who still quote Family guy.

On an unrelated note, I love those people who are upset becaus TDKR didn't get any nominations. Seriously?

And the academy has been kissing spielberg's ass ever that whole debacle with The Color Purple transpired.

Thought this was a great year for movies. Too bad most of my favorites are all in one category...animation.

Edit: About Silver Lining Playbooks. It's awesome. Seriously one of the best written films this year. It's drama at its finest. Amazing performances by all.

Great film but I wouldn't have predicted the academy giving it this much love. It's surprisingly refreshing and pretty damn funny for a drama.

I'll predict the academy will make their own statement and pick a dark horse. My guess will be Beasts of The Southern Wild. It wasn't my favorite but I can see that happening.

Call me crazy but I think this is the best Oscars in some time. Unlike usual, I think basically every Best Picture candidate is a solid film. Usually, there's a major turnoff or two in there somewhere. I haven't seen Amour, Les Miserables, or Zero Dark Thirty but all the rest were basically winners of some order, even if they're blatant Oscar bait. I expect at least 2/3 of the ones I haven't seen will be some form of excellent.

Some colossal snubs this year but hey, wouldn't be the Oscars without them, right? The only one that seems really glaring is Ben Affleck not getting a director nod. Not that Tarantino or Bigelow weren't snubbed as well but Argo's just been all sorts of electric on the Oscar buzz front as well as just the general moviegoers front. Putting myself in the Academy's shoes, I just can't figure out why they wouldn't throw him a bone.

Also, Michael Haneke has got to be the most amazing dark horse in the ceremony's history. I really can't think of a director who's more the antithesis to what the Academy's all about. Wouldn't be surprised if he flat out turned down an award if they tried to give it to him.

Anyway, the awards show itself almost invariably sucks so can't say I'm looking forward to it all that much. But I see many a great film on that list and would be interested to see what ends up going to who.

No TDKR nominations? Shame.

Still yet to watch The Impossible but glad people have noticed Watts! Amazing actress waiting to be given an Oscar.

Sadly, most of these movies haven't even been released in cinemas here in Oz so it might be a while before I get to them.

I watched the last few minutes of the Seth MacFarlane/Emma Stone combo last night... Was a little cringe worthy, lame jokes every second nomination and Stone having to fake laugh.

But still, very excited for this.

That part about Seth McFarlane cracked me up! Very funny. It could almost be written by Seth himself as part of a self-deprecating ruse.

Also a very funny line about everyone loves and you hate!

You really liked TDKR, didn't you!
