It's -10degrees in Virginia, and my car heater is not working.  No money to fix it or no one will lend the poor guy with cash.  This morning I was driving to work, and it takes an hour to get there.  My feet were getting cold, then it started to feel pain.  When I got off my car, I was limping.
I Googled it and it's frostbite.  They say I might lose my leg if it keeps happening.
At this time, I am worried that I will get hyperthermia while driving and collapse then have an accident and die.
My ex told me she will help me fix the car but I don't want her money.  Should I take her money?

Thought this was going to be some update on Balt's script Frostbite, but apparently this is the real deal!

Jeepers: frostbite & possible death v 'should I take her money'?

Yep, take the money.
Keep your limbs.
And, pay her back when you can.

Is this for real?

P.S. Perhaps get a place closer to work?

Take the money. If you need it, take it. Just be sure to pay her back if you ever get the opportunity.

Not to make it seem like I've been in a bitter relationship before, (or still am), but hell yeah, take her for all she's worth!  I guess unless you have pride.  But pride won't keep you warm, will it?

:-)  I'm just kidding.  My advice is the same as Libby's  (LC's), take the money and pay her back.  And until then, wear two or three pairs of socks and wrap some plastic tightly around your feet.  That should at least keep the cold out of those extremities.  How's your fingers doing?

And Libby, you got some nerve posting on this thread.  Last week you guys were in 120 degree heat and saying how you had to spend the day in the pool in your bikini.  (You never mentioned a bikini, but that's how I'm going to remember it.  :-)

Hey, Is this a Synopsis for a movie. Hee Hee Just kidding

DON'T take the money, if the relationship didn't work before it won't now.

Buy two hot water bottles and strap one to each leg, they should remain warm for an hour or two.

Alternatively, lite a fire in a barrel on the back seat. The advantage of this is you can toast marshmellows or cook breakfast at the same time.

Seriously, if you have a plug for the cigarette lighter that works, you can get all sorts of devices/heaters that plug in as well as USB adapters and seat warmers, electric thermos  etc. etc. Most are not that expensive and will cost you less than fixing the car.

Here's a link on Ebay
http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/12V.....;hash=item41698b8053

Its around $12 with free postage, there's heaps like this one. Search car heater on Ebay.

Regards Alex

How much does it cost to fix the frickin' heater?

Fix the heater by any means possible, and that includes borrowing money from your Ex, your friends, your family, even your employer.  Of course, you'll pay them back as soon as you can.  Set up a payback schedule.

Dude, for reals...this is fucked.  Fix the heater!!!

Am I on facebook???

Take the money and go buy a prostitute for a night, at least go out in style.

Or you can fix the heater.

I thought the exact same thing!

Maybe get a professional opinion on your foot, don't believe everything the internet tells you...including this thread.

Try a friend or a family member before going back to your ex for a dig out. And to reiterate what Jeff said, how much could it cost to fix the car heater?

I think someone needs to post a new thread about Balt's script Frostbite...or at least an SS version with SS inspired characters.

I remember Balt showed up a few months ago after Frostbite made the semis at the Page contest, but haven't seen him around since.

As for this thread, it's got everything.  Goals, stakes and urgency.

Buy a space heater and a power converter for your cigarette lighter.

Be toasty in NO TIME...

Or better yet, install a wood burning pot belly stove...

Or, you could eat lots of beans for dinner every night and just rip some huge farts while you drive and light a match every now and then and ignite the fumes into small controllable fireballs.

I think I have a solution to your problem.

First.  Ride INSIDE your car.  It's much warmer than ON your car.

Second.  It seems like you're worried about getting hyperthermia.  Hyperthermia is overheating.  This leads me to believe that you're taking steps to cool yourself down.  Don't do this.  Cooling yourself down when it's -10 degrees outside will lead to HYPOTHERMIA, which will lead to frostbite and possibly death.

In conclusion, ride inside your car and dress warm.  You may now thank me.

Jordan

Anyone notice that it appears Coldbug came in out of the cold just to post this thread, and then it seems like 'everyone just talk amongst yourselves'.

Hope you're doing okay, mate.

I'm just hoping that Coldbug didn't get 1 or both of his feet frozen to the floor of his car and can't get out of the cold.

I hope he has a working cell phone at least to call for help.

Like Jeff said, get it fixed however you can, and like the Col. said, talk to a doctor!

Not stuff to mess around with. You need your feet. And even if you don't need 'em, I'm sure you like 'em... Hope you're doing okay Coldbug!

Frostbite never made it out of the PAGE 2012 semifinals.
http://pageawards.com/past-winners/2012-winners/2012-finalists/

Failed to make the "final ten" in the Horror/Thriller category.
But still top 25 in your genre, it's a resume worthy accomplishment.
PAGE Semifinalist looks good to a reader when faced with a sea of unknowns.

As to the GSU quotient...
All we need now is a short script about frostbite!
Come on, guys!
Frostbite OWC! Frostbite OWC!
Someone must get frostbit in your story, any genre!

Regards,
E.D.

Frostbit (Horror, Historical) -- A young poet takes the road less travelled by, and that makes all the difference...when he's attacked by cannibals.

Frostbit (Horror, Sci-Fi) -- When the insane Dr. Price's chemical weapons experiment goes horribly wrong, the nearby townsfolk find that their cold mornings have a little more "bite" than usual...Frost! It's forming on your window. Frost! It's built by the wind. Frost! It's got teeth...and it's waiting to eat you up and send you to a cold grave!

Frostbit (Nature) -- There's frozen water vapour on the grass, but just a little.

Frostbit (Drama) -- Robert's marriage is torn apart when he's caught with a hoar frost.

...and that last one is an obvious sign to stop.

Heater is fixed.  I took her money.  Paid back the first portion She said she is happy she could help.  My foot is okay now.  No more Frostbites!
I will write more so one day I can sell my script and buy her a brand new BMW to return the favor.
