As I said before over Skype, I think this is a great idea, Pia.

Jeez, where to begin?
I had tinkered around with rewriting a pro script in 2009 to learn story construction.
I joined here in September 2010.
Spent better part of a year learning coverage here. Made some nifty friends too.

In 2011, I attended pitch cons (PitchFest, InkTip & Sherwood Oaks).
Found out I have a knack for pitching, made contacts and got script requests.
And all that led to an internship with a prodco here in town.
Reads hundreds of more scripts for them while honing my craft.
That lead to a paying gig doing the same stuff.

In 2012, I got my first sale, Lie Detector.
Two prodcos joined forces to buy the property.
In the end, it didn't work out.
They were more interested in developing it into a feature than shooting the short.
Wanted me to spend years developing a feature for free. I don't think so.
Since I have first refusal rights, the project's essentially dead.
Unless they bring an offer to me to write a new draft.
Oh well, live and learn. Better on a short than a feature.

In 2013, I've got a prodco supporting Clone Wife.
The development of the script was smooth as glass. We're pretty sympatico.

Two and a half years after I joined the Simply Scripts...
I've got my feature on the desk of A-List talent and directors this week.
So, we'll see what the next chapter brings!

But this "story" wouldn't exist without Simply Scripts, thanks guys.

Regards,
Brett Martin

Nothing to plug for myself. I did once win a simplyscripts coffee mug! Well, actually I was the runner up, but the winner(Ryan Lee) already had a mug. I will say the coffee tastes great out of it, and I've brought the mug to visit some spooky places(Lizzy Borden's place, and the Shawsheen River made famous in the Salem Witch trials as the place where Satan baptized his minions).

I can plug some others though! Pia has some really cool stuff going on with a legit producer, so you should be seeing a lot of great things in the coming years. And I mean like in the next couple years, not some distant horizon.

Dena has some top secret cool stuff going on I am not allowed to discuss, but which came from posting here. Her IMDB will grow as fast as she writes scripts!

And I've read Jay's 2 scripts for the So Pretty/So Dark series, and seen one of the short films, and in the world of web series, that work really stands out. I can see that going somewhere, and that's more prediction than plug.

So pretty good progress for SS writers, the kind you can sink your teeth into.

Hey Pia, I was wondering if 'Finders Keepers' would make it on to Netflix?  If so I'll keep an eye out for it.

James, didn't you have a film called 'Abattoir' filmed a few years ago?

It's so good to see Simplyscripters doing well, it gives hope to us all.

I'm not one for self praise but I've had a few shorts filmed.
'My Fifteen Minutes was' filmed last year.  'An Original Idea' was shot a few years ago.  I've had three people ask to shoot 'Man Watcher' in recent months so I'm hopeful at least one will happen.  Someone asked to shoot 'Fight' but then disappeared so I'm not hopeful on that front.  I had a guy come close to shooting 'The Big Stiff' last year but alas he couldn't raise the funding and didn't want to cut the script down.  The elusive feature is still some way off I think though.  I had interest in 'Pub Lunch' a couple of years ago but it never happened.

Ha, considering I don't like self praise I've just waffled on a bit there. lol.

It seems members are getting their work picked up all the time here.  It's great news and a big thank you to Don for posting and the members for their helpful reviews.

It is online to pay services right now. In 90 days it will be in stores after that's done, it will be on Netflix and Hulu. The film is barely 1 hr. There's a lot of credits that run really slow....

I'm so shameless i'm going to use two threads to brag!

Anyway, my short script Inner Journey has had some success with;

-Third place in the Gimme Credit Competition (already posted)

-And has just become a Finalist in the American Gem Literary Festival which had just under a 1000 entries. I'll find out the result in the next four weeks.(Babz buzz 23)

Quite chuffed with that.

Following the Gimme Credit results, i obtained the script feedback offered with the entry and have hopefully improved the script. It is now entered - the last competition for this baby - into The Page Awards.

My scripts  HERE

The Elevator Most Belonging To Alice - Semi Final Bluecat, Runner Up Nashville
Inner Journey - Page Awards Finalist - Bluecat semi final
Grieving Spell - winner - London Film Awards.  Third - Honolulu
Ultimate Weapon - Fresh Voices - second place

Actually, I think the different versions may be, depending on the publishing house.

Fortunately, you're protected by parody laws.

Heard from my Producer/Director today on the short -- The Box or Die Box that I wrote...below is some super good news! Also a link to the list of nominated films!!! A special thanks to the talented Sascha Zimmermann and a shout out to our wonderful agent, Babz for her help!

The Box got officially nominated for the Shocking Shorts Award 2013 today!

The Shocking Shorts Award is the most important Thriller/mystery Award in Germany! They got a few hundred entries and selected 10 short films which got nominated for the Award!

Within the next weeks a Jury decides which 3 films (of the 10) will make the finals. Of course only one film can win - BUT we are nominated and nobody can take that from us The Box will always be labeled Nominated for The Shock Shorts Award 2013.

The Award comes from "NBC Universal" and their tv channel "13th Street". They will Screen all 10 nominated films on their channel in june I guess.

Here is a link to the offically nominated films list:
