Got back from the pitchfest just a little while ago and I got three words to describe the experience:
IT'S BONER TIME!!!!
This was an awesome event where I got to pitch two of my scripts The Brass Ring and The Devil's Jokebook. It was a great experience and I have a number of people interested in both of these scripts.
I strongly recommend that SSers attend atleast one of these fests and to bring atleast two different scripts to pitch. Bring two horror scripts won't mean to a producer/agant/manager who isn't interested in horror.
Before I go into detail about the fest, I want to thank Brett for giving me some important tips at the fest. The prep works makes a real differtence.
The first producer I pitched to was looking strictly for thrillers. I pitched The Devil's Jokebook. She loved it! When my five minutes was up, she told me that she would pay to see a movie like that. A couple of hours later, while I walked near her table, she called me over by name. She asked me to sit down again. She had more questions and asked to to explain my script in further.
Through out the course of the day, I bounced between pitching The Brass Ring and The Devil's Jokebook, depending on what they were looking for. I only manged to pitch to 12-15 agents/producers/manager in the course of the day (the lines were pretty long for some companies).
My last pitch of the day went to a producer looking for a comedy. I was also his last pitch of the day and was actually handed a 'last person on line' card. When I sat down, I told him I was his last and gave him the card. I also told him that 'last person on line' was the name of my script and I gave him the card, saying it was my one-sheet. Then I told him the truth; we laughed about it as I pitched The Brass Ring. Afterwards, he asked to read the script.
Not every pitch was successful, but I'd like to think I got more hits than misses. I'll find out in the next week or two.
Hope you get better. And hope that you got more hits with your screenplays.
