Solid list. Surprised that Blue is the Warmest Colour didn't make the best foreign film shortlist. Not that that's all that surprising; City of God, one of the best foreign films ever, in my opinion, wasn't nominated either.

You think so? I thought the script was mostly tight actually (technical jargon was the biggest put off) and almost worth the ten bucks, thirteen since it was 3D. They sentimentality, which I'm typically not a fan of in films, dragged on. The characters had little depth to them, but I kind of took that as a given considering the story was meant to be packed with excitement. But other than that overall it was good. Not great, but worth the watch.

What? I think you may have built it up a bit too much before you went. I usually try and think something will be, at best, all right.

I'd say Gravity is one of the few films I loved of late. Very few films have had me on the edge of my seat and holding my breath in such a way. Just goes to show you can't please everyone all the time.

Oh, and I didn't bother with that 3D nonsense. I ain't paying extra to have to wear specs through a movie just to get a stereoscopic effect. Now, I'll get back in me box.

Pretty predictable list except for Saving Mr. Banks getting snubbed on basically everything. Definitely an Oscar-y flick if there ever was one. I always figured it to be the dark horse for Best Picture and having just seen it recently, I think it definitely appeals to the Academy's sensibilities, at least if history is anything to go by.

Inside Llewyn Davis also got snubbed but somehow that makes sense. Not a commercial film by any means. Still got some Cannes accolades. What's the Oscars without snubs anyway? There's only so many movies you can include.

What's weird is that there are only nine Best Picture noms instead of the usual ten. I wonder...

Also, why is Before Midnight considered an adapted screenplay? Are sequels considered adapted material? It's not like it's a remake of Before Sunrise. It's also the same writer/director and actors so it's not like a whole new crew picked up where these guys left off. Also, weird...

Other than that, pretty decent year. I saw more Oscar nominated films in 2013 than any other year I've ever watched the Oscars. The show's not always great but I'm looking forward to checking it out with a broader perspective this time around.

No surprise to not see it get a nom - because it had terrible reviews, and zero buzz - but The Counselor is a great film. Easily Oscarworthy. It'll get credit eventually. Vying with Wolf for my film of the year at the minute, with a couple more to see before making my mind up.

Also, how the best 2 scores of the year (Oblivion and Man of Steel) have been ignored is beyond me.
