Sadly this is not a post about what happens when the British monarchy is put on the dole.

Although that would be nice, this is way more important.

And frankly typical...

The world with people in it can be an awful place. Hard to watch the news these days if you want to sleep well.

Excuse me while I find a tree to hug before some fat cat gets a minion to chop it down and then burns it so he can buy another house and dodge some more tax.

Yeah good point RV.

Even though Flannery is a renowned climate change alarmist, this man made destruction that is allowed not just on the Reef but all over the world is a disgrace.

Oh, I wasn't aware of hm before this. At least I don't think so. Seems you're better read than me on this, Stevie. Not something I'd normally accuse of you of...

Well said, that man.

The largest reef in the world. One of the greatest things on the planet. It's extremely sad. And bloody downright stupid.

Corporate greed has no limits it seems.

A couple of links below to sign petitions to save the Great Barrier Reef.

The planet is heating up in parts. That's what kills the coral. It's going to die, coal or no coal.

If only this was was the single cause of devastation.

I wish it were that simple, Dustin.

There's loads of other factors - practically all avoidable with a little will from government - and not just the Australian one in now.

The linked article above paints the much bigger picture.

Yeah I read it.

The article implies much (even blaming starfish) but the crux of the matter is, the world is heating up due to solar activity and the coral will die anyway... naturally. Heat kills the algae which then starves the coral.

At one point, medieval England was as famous for her wines as the south of France is today. That's because we had the same weather then that they enjoy today.

Ups and downs. Where one place is hotting up and looking at drought, there are others that are looking at unprecedented flooding. It is my opinion, based upon everything I've read and debated up till now (which is quite a lot) that the weather systems moving around, as they are, is a consequence of increased solar activity and there isn't a thing we can do about it.

Dustin,

All very true. England was also covered in forest for hundreds of years until they chopped nearly all of it down and burned it, thus contributing to the climate change thing. But this isn't about that.

The climate does change anyway, but they could still do something. Those who completely deny climate change rarely do so unless they've a financial interest.

Quite how they look their kids and grandkids in the eye bewilders.

What they could do tomorrow for the GBR is stop polluting the sea near and around the reef. Stop the farmers allowing run off from their land to run into the sea. And stop mining the coal around there.

They could also stop building a huge port right next to the reef at Abbott's point, thus creating ship traffic in huge numbers right beside the reef.

That's my point. It's a bloody disgrace. And for what? For greed and sheer bloodymindedness.

If they are allowed to continue to do this to such a world famous beauty spot, which also brings in millions from tourists to the area (not for much longer - The Great Dead Barrier Reef - yeah mate, it was around here - see that grey thing down there, yeah mate, the fish have gone too, then what isn't fair game for the same treatment after? Fracking Yellowstone? No doubt there's plans in place already.

And when they start fracking England, which they are as desperate as Dan to do, I'd be real careful about drinking the water.

The profit is on both sides. The War on man-made Global Warming is a billion dollar industry. I pay more car tax, more tax in general and so do businesses. Al Gore has made a lot of money from this and so have his cronies.

Facts are facts. What are facts? Concepts which ingratiate subjective norms. So truth has to come from somewhere else.

Not sure if anything changes until the individual decides to take a stand. Then the beauty of existing is perceiving. A worthy standing.

Bottom line, wherever you think is bullshit. And bullshit is what makes all flourish.  What's  left?
