I've worked like crazy these last few weeks, and just finished the 4th (and final) draft of a feature in time to send it in to a few contests. But now, I'm in somewhat of a post-completion haze, where my creative juices are just about running on empty, and I'm having a really hard time coming up with new ideas which I think are good enough to put more effort into. Any tips?

I switch to shorts and write a couple before thinking of the next feature.

Walk away for awhile.

Come back fresh. It will still be there.

Writing, like any relationship, sometimes requires some time apart.

It works for me.

Tiger: all good recommendations here.  I hate to say it, but I personally don't get post-completion haze.  It's straight on to the next one.

BUT - jotting off a quick short between features is really refreshing.  I recommend it.  It gets one's juices flowing again.  (Anyone here makes an innuendo out of that, I swear I'll throw my old laptop at them. And it's a heavy mo-fo.)

If that doesn't work, walk away for a week or so like Shawn said.  Take a small break.

Break, like others have suggested.

Or just forget about the results (ie the need to finish a script) and just daydream round some ideas for a while. Jotting down stuff that's' good.

IMO - the best thing to do in between scripts is to read other scripts. It gets the juices going and can be a great learning device.
