I just landed my first paid assignment this week!
How did I get that paying job?
It all stared here on SS four years ago.
Four years of grueling work. Six days a week.

By putting my stuff out there and meeting producers/execs. I met this producer at a pitch event in 2012. He optioned my AF winner, Clone Wife, in 2013. The option ultimately never went anywhere, but I impressed him with how I rewrote the hell out of that script based on his notes. He never forgot how willing I was to tear the story down and build it back up. So, when an opportunity came up to find a cheap hard-working writer looking to break into the industry, I got the call.

If my uneducated fat ass can land work in this town, you guys can too!

None of this would be possible without the great members/mods of this site.
I've learned so much from the SS faithful over the years.
Thanks for being such an inspiration to me!
I'll try and do you all proud out there among the English.

Keep the Faith and Keep Writing!
Brett

Good job, Brett.

My only issue with your post is you said you were "cheap".  Don't sell yourself short, bro.  Get what you're worth.

I just landed a new job and as we were discussing compensation, they wanted me to 'work with them" on the compensation package.  I stayed true to myself and got exactly the figure I told them months earlier.

Don't settle.  Stand tall.

Congrats!

Walmart greeters used to get $9 per hour. I guess Jeff argued it to $10. Hope he doesn't get run down on black Friday.

No surprise at all Brett, but awesome news!

It's gonna be crazy to look back at Simply in a couple decades and see all the writers that began with this site.

Just adding to the congrats. Simply Scripts was one of the first sites on the internet devoted to screenwriting and I don't think it gets the credit it deserves. It'll be interesting to see how perceptions change as more and more writers from SS thrive.

Hey now...it was Target I was working for a few years back and I was unloading trucks at 4:00 AM, not greeting peeps.  I think I was paid like $8.45/hour and my paycheck after 2 weeks was around $85.

Damn good times...
