I was personally never a fan, but the man sure did his fair share in "changing" teh music scene back in the day.

I didn't mind his music, but not a hyper fan, did like him as Tesla in The Prestige and generally thought he was a special, creatively driven, individual... and not enough of them in the world.

RIP

The 90s were more my era. Acid House, Happy Hardcore, Jungle, etc, etc...

I also like the modern music (Grime, Trap, Dubstep) and I like the old stuff too. Even Bowie had a couple good tracks. I also like Dr Hook, some Queen tracks, maybe lots of Queen tracks.

Bowie always seemed a little strange to me... like he didn't know where he stood. Commercial or Underground... he seemed to have a foot in both. I've been listening to his music all day, in my car, out in the stores and wherever. It's everywhere. A nice send off for a true artist.

I'd say RIP, but there's no such thing as peace.

A towering, seemingly limitless, constantly shifting talent, who hopped mediums with ease and without compromise.

Apparently he wrote and recorded Blackstar, his final album which came out last Friday, fully aware it would be his 'parting gift'. The ultimate way to go for any artist, surely - meeting it on your terms, making it mean something. There's a terrifying but beautiful moment at the end of the penultimate track, Dollar Days, where his voice, repeating the lyric 'I'm dying to, I'm trying to', starts to fade and be overwhelmed by the accompaniment, fading into the background... Storytelling through music.

Also a fun actor, in the right role. Gonna stick on The Prestige tonight in his honour (only Bowie film I have on DVD). But who could possibly forget him in Labyrinth? 'You remind me of the babe!'

RIP.

Guess who's back? Back again?

Never a huge fan, per se, but he was one of the few popular artists on a mass scale I never heard a bad song from. I had a greatest hits tape I borrowed from a friend's parents when I was a kid, which I listened to incessantly for a good while. Later in my college years/early 20s, every now and then, I would often hear a particular song in a random film (e.g. Inglourious Basterds, Lost Highway, Dogville, etc.) that would grab my attention in a certain way, and it was always David Bowie (I'd subsequently listen to those songs incessantly). I suppose I should've been able to recognize his voice right off the bat, but again, I'm not a huge fan, and he also has a pretty substantial vocal range.

Same could be said about his films. I always see him pop up in random roles and invariably find him distinct and interesting. Facebook is already alive with references to Labyrinth, The Prestige, and The Hunger, among others. I've also heard his personal favorite film was Reanimator. Class dude right there.

Nah. Fucking legend. That's about all there is to it. Death is always a bummer, but at the same time, there's a bittersweet pleasure, I find, in watching great artists complete the cycle of legends and solidify their place in history. Thanks for the memories, dude!

I always thought Bowie was one of the few music artists who everybody liked, even if it was only a little bit.

A true chameleon, a man who fell to earth.

Hit me like a truck when I heard yesterday. Sadly missed. As close to genius as it gets.

Don't really know much of his music, but I love Queen so I made sure to listen to Under Pressure this morning. Sad when someone so important to the musical world dies, especially at only 69. Sad when anyone dies too young, really.

I would love feedback on any of these!

I was shocked by this news too, never even knew he was sick. I remember his cameo on Ricky Gervais' Extras when he made a song about his character Andy. It was hilarious.
