I looked into it since I already have an account. You have to have a business and a tax ID to get going. Not hard to do. Maybe this will inspire me to actually try to make a film again.
All they need is someone well known to create something people enjoy and charge pennies to view it.
Amazon already has millions of people invested in their ecosystem, and they have the infrastructure to make this work. I can push a few buttons on my phone and, SHAZAM, another case of extra large condoms is delivered to my doorstep. I'd be more than happy to push a few buttons on my phone to watch some quality content as long as it was priced appropriately.
I'm hopeful that I'll finally get people to watch my film of mimes performing in the dark.

I think this could allow filmmakers with no distributor to get their films available to the public. I imagine it would work just like the books. Some good stuff will be discovered and others will only get ten reviews that are all 5 star written by friends and family and one 1 star review by someone not related.
I assume they're modelling it on the Kindle store idea, and another place to have content can't be bad... now I'll have to go and try to jump through the tax hoops!
I'm ready to embrace whatever comes along.... as people that create something from nothing, there will always be a position for us. It's the middlemen, that drive up the cost, that I have no issue with becoming a thing of the past.
