(Been asked to post this here by Don so he can put something on the SS front page)

Script Revolution is a script hosting website offering many of the features of the top script directories for free. Screenwriters can add and manage as many script listings as they want for zero cost. Filmmakers can browse the script listings as much as they need without charge. Inspired by the efforts of SimplyScripts, which has helped so many writers and filmmakers find one-another, Script Revolution hopes to bring another avenue of opportunity.

Once signed up, members can upload short, tv, web series, or movie scripts and add a variety of tags which help describe the nature of the material - we’re not just talking genre here, we’re talking budget, story structure, lead role genders, writer style, and much more. Filmmakers can then search the database using those filters to find exactly the type of script they are looking for. That’s the thing you see, the ethos at Script Revolution is all about discovery rather than promotion. Listings are all random so there’s nobody paying their way to the top, soliciting votes, or using any tricks to get ahead of others. Readers don’t need to sign up to anything and don’t have to be part of an exclusive club to access scripts. They can also bookmark all the scripts they like the look of ready to come back and read at a later date. There’s no clique or elitism here - all scripts and all readers are considered equal.

Script detail pages also include the writer’s bio with links to their social media accounts and a contact form that sends messages direct to their email - very useful for those who only want to upload their loglines and handle read requests themselves. In addition to that, all the writer’s other scripts are also listed. If someone loves your writing, they are exposed to all your writing. This ultimately means writers can build up their own profile pages, with a link they can share, introducing themselves, providing their contact details, and listing their scripts ready to read.

Everyone is welcome to join the revolution - http://www.ScriptRevolution.com

CJ - I do like the site. Hopefully, you will build a large enough database to attract filmmakers. I did note that you did not have and terms or conditions or standard liability waivers when you sign up.   Do you have them for when a script is submitted?

Thanks for signing up, Dave, and thanks for the kind words.

Yes, there’re terms that have to be accepted every time someone posts a script.

Interesting that it's a Drupal site. I pretty much stuck with WP and Joomla for the more complicated sites. I might try Drupal out on my domain soon. Looks pretty decent.

Good luck to you with it, CJ! I'll sign up later - want to go through my screenplays first and decide what's considered to be finished work.

Is it only for unproduced screenplays?

Will be great to see you and work on there, Khamanna.

You can add screenplays and tag them as optioned, seeking funding, in development, or produced. This way you get to build your portfolio. The script search lists scripts tagged as free to produce, for sale, and examples of work by default but users can change this if they want. You don't have to add the pdf if you want to keep that private.

Some new features.

Members can now add YouTube, Vimeo, and Instagram social media links to their profile. Great for showing off any produced videos or marketing activity.

Home page now shows the current stats for member count and number of scripts in the database.

The "Writers I Follow" page now displays a stream of activity from all writers a member follows such as when they add and update their script listings. This is to help filmmakers see the latest from their favourite writers.

Writers can set a script status to "Seeking feedback" to help them hook up privately with keen readers who like reviewing material.

Excellent!

Sorry I haven't done anything since I signed up, but I'm really really behind on all this other stuff.

One thought for those who worry about their scripts getting stolen, my agent used to tell me to only post the first 30 pages of a feature. I've done that, but also left chunks out in the middle. By the time they get to page 30 or 50, they know if they want to read more or not.

Just had another thought. Is it possible for you to make it so that writers with scripts listed can see who checks your scripts? Like on InkTip for example, it tells you what company checked your logline, synopsis, resume and/or downloaded the script.

This can't be implemented because all script listings are public. While I appreciate writers often want to know exactly who's looking at their work, I also want the site to be easily and readily accessible to filmmakers.

CJ - the site is really rounding out. You have done some real nice work.

I did get he newsletter and found it informative with one nit. I was not able to enlarge the charts so (being an old fok) it was difficult to see the data. Not sure that is solvable but thought it would be neat to have a data type on the site so we could click and see the charts/data there.

Again - some giant leaps in short order. Kudos

CJ,

Great stats.  I hope they continue to trend up.  Just to followup on a promise from a while ago.  I have your write-up to go up on the blog - simplyscripts.com - on Friday evening to run through until I get the original scripts up on Sunday.  I have an ad on the unproduced page as well as on the main site.

Just a couple of notes.  Periodically I move things around.  Don't read anything into it.  It usually means I've fallen in love with someone else.  It happens.  However, there will always be an ad to SR on the unproduced page.

I hope when the redesign of SS comes out I get a lot of hate mail about how I've ripped off the best parts of ScriptRevolution.    I mean, round images!  How cool is that!

You sir, are a gent of the highest order. If you get any hate mail then just reply quoting me saying that's okay

I'm going to stick a Script Revolution Loves bit in the footer with a link to SS and STS. With SS being such an effective place to get feedback, I'm trying to think of a way to direct writers who may benefit in the right direction.

I think we're working as close together as we can at this time. SS is recommending SR & SR is recommending SS. It would be amazing if, at some point, a user could submit their scripts to both sites at once, but we'll need to see how both sites grow first.

Basically, if you have a horror script of any length, it's worth uploading before it all kicks off.

Also like that we get an email when someone downloads our scripts or follow us. Although I find the latter a bit creepy.

Thanks, but I just used my own experience as prrof that filmmakers do seem to go there. I think it's very hard to get traffic to any new website and CJ seem to have managed to attract filmmakers, not just writers, is IMO, a great achievement and hopefully, the word will spread.

I concur with Dave's concur. Which is a double concur! If anyone is procrastinating because they think it'll take too long to get scripts up... the whole thing takes seconds not minutes.

It would be less creepy if I had more than one follower. It feels like it might be a stalker.

I was a bit curious about who my 'followers' - yes I think I have two - were as well.  I think it's good it's anon though. It's a nice compliment and doesn't become a popularity contest.

And the reviews work too. I had notifications of tons of downloads on Route 89, and a query, no option yet.

My prob is I have to learn to write low budget shorts.
Anyway, focussing on features mainly now.

It's not difficult to upload scripts to SR and I love the inbuilt feature of adding a pic easily to 'sell' the story's vibe. Good on ya CJ. Works as a great adjunct to my fav SS.

Tony, Dave, Pia, James, Libby, thanks so much for the kind words.

A lot of this is thanks to Don who was kind enough to put out a front page post about ScriptRev along with adding the banner. I'm have no doubt that led to a surge of interest from filmmakers and writers alike, helping create the critical mass needed.

I can't tell you the anxiety inducing effects of launching a site like this and having to white knuckle your way to seeing some results. Let's just say I've been losing a lot of sleep worrying that I've been misleading writers or doing the wrong thing.

One of the biggest stresses has been implementing the system to track downloads. I'm so glad writers can finally feel reassured their works is being read. I'm also hoping that, with the follow function writers will feel there's already an eager audience out there when they upload new material. We can't continue to have this system where everyone seemingly has to start from scratch when marketing their scripts.

Also, just to put the numbers in perspective here. As of this morning, Script Revolution has 777 scripts uploaded and had 1,979 script downloads last month. If every script were hosted on InkTip, that would be costing those writers $11,655 per month to host them. If every script were hosted on The Black List, that number would be $19,425. That's two services that do not offer the same range of features or broad scope of exposure yet I'm able to fund it as one individual. Yes, many of those scripts would not be on ScriptRev if it wasn't free to upload but that's the whole point - every script we have to offer counts and could be the one that makes or breaks us. Just consider how many aspiring screenwriters there are in the world, from poor backgrounds or poor countries who are priced out of any exposure. It makes me sick just thinking about it. Just think about how many screenwriters financially burn out and cannot afford to continue buying exposure, be it via pseudo-advertising, competition lotteries, or evaluation roulette. Also contemplate how many filmmakers cannot pass the mystery selection process needed to access these services.

Simply Scripts and Script Revolution are the future. They have to be. The currently system isn't just grossly biased toward the affluent it's also built on this fallacy that there is an ample Hollywood marketplace - there isn't. Nobody in tinsel town is buying specs, they are only buying IP. The only real 'opportunities' are hooking up with a manager-producer where writers end up endlessly re-writing their specs for free to suit someone else's artistic vision. The only real jobs are being the 34th uncredited writer on some development-soup nightmare.

Our whole industry needs a massive shake-up and realisation that we have to start looking outside of the Hollywood system and start thinking globally. Trying to break into Hollywood via commercial services is not a hill we should chose to die on, yet so many of us do. The global film market is set to explode. There's now nothing stopping a small budget feature made in a developing country find a massive audience on Netflix and Amazon.

The industry is being broken up from the status Q. Technology (video) and social media presents boundless opportunities for the amateur screenplay writer/filmmaker. Hollywood can't control it. And, they can't be very happy about it either.

It's quite glorious!

Absolutely. Imagine you're one city that dominates the industry on a global level, and since you are so huge you can pretty much do as you please. Then imagine that power network shrinks to the size of just a few corporate buildings that are struggling to meet consumer demands.

Now imagine you are someone who makes a living selling access to Hollywood. You really think any screenwriting competition, directory database, or listing service is going to tell writers there is no promised land? Or do you think they are just going to keep selling tickets while driving people round in circles?

There is so much at stake here and it completely hangs on keeping the image of Hollywood burning in amateur screenwriter's minds.

I recently put some scripts up there and I found it easy and snazzy to do so. The notice email about the scripts being downloaded is nice, it lets you know someone is at least looking. I must admit not knowing who is looking is quite frustrating but I can understand why you can't reveal this information. If it were just production companies like on Inktip, then yes, but this is people's personal accounts.

I did wonder about the syncing between Shootin' the Shorts and Script Revolution. Some scripts appear on both sites while others don't. Is that deliberate or a bug? I do admit I mention it out of selfish reasons, as my script The Enchanted Quill did appear on Shootin' the Shorts but not on the Shootin' the Shorts section of Script Revolution.

Great work though, it's nice to see the site go from strength to strength!

Six month update: 378 members with 906 scripts uploaded. Over 108,000 page views and 7,128 script downloads. Lots of changes and improvements. From tomorrow the site will require registration to download scripts and writers will be notified who's downloading them.

Sorry I missed your comment back in December. From next month, you are going to know who's downloaded your scripts and people will have to be registered to download them. We'll have to see how it goes. It's a feature that's been continually requested by writers.

Things are a little messy with the existing Shootin' The Shorts website and the section on Script Revolution at the moment. Basically, a script has to be uploaded to Script Revolution and both the writer and reviewer signed up to be featured within that section. This way readers get to see the writers latest bio and their other scripts. We tried hard to correlate what was already uploaded and notify writers of the changes but this wasn't easy as it was a massive job with a lot of logistics involved. Eventually the existing site will close and everything will be on Script Revolution.

I'm really sorry your script got missed out. I just moved the review across and it will also be mentioned in the next newsletter; https://www.scriptrevolution.c.....-tale-of-retribution

I love this site and am looking so forward to joining. I recognize you from AS.

But, I have a bit of a conundrum....under stock character I see

'Angry black woman' 'Magical negro' and 'tragic mulatto' But I don't seem to see 'Black mammy' anywhere?

CJ can you add that for me. Thanks.

CJ,

Would you consider shortening the character requirement in the writers bio section? There just isn't that much I want to say about myself. Lol.

**Disregard. Appears you already did this since last I updated.**

Yes, I had to play around with the requirements here to find a balance where people didn't find it too daunting. A good bio is so powerful for writers. I really want everyone to embrace the benefits. My worry is that people are going to see good loglines but then abort on a read after seeing poor bio pages.

CJ,

Any chance you would consider increasing the max number of words from 35 to maybe 40 in the Logline section? It's hard to make 2 complete sentences with a 35 cap.

Thanks,

Tony.

35 in 2 sentences would be about 17 word single sentences. 20 each should work real well.

I just want to say a huge thank you for Simply Scripts allowing this thread to continue on this forum. As some of you may know, this weekend Amazon Studios deleted four years worth of contributions I'd made to their community including my Notable Project because someone claimed a post about Script Revolution was spam.

CJ,

Very sorry to hear that. I understand how you feel. Is a punch in the gut to be misrepresented like that. Regrettably, one of the indications of success is crap like this happening. I don't want to dwell on the negatives that occur because of what we do because in the giant scheme of things, we help more people and get more enjoyment out of the experience that outweighs the utter bullshit we have to contend with.

Remember that are a lot more people out there who really know you and what you are doing and we don't take anything we read negative about you on the 'net at face value.  Your friends will ask you, the trolls will just jump on the bandwagon.

Thanks for these comments, they mean a lot. This, along with having my Inktip account deactivated, I'm starting to feel a little beaten up while only trying to help. I have tweeted Amazon Studios, emailed them, and written a blog about what's happened. No response from them yet so I guess it's time for me to move on.

Hey CJ.

Is there a way to disable e-mail notifications that a script has been downloaded?

If not - you should code that.

I think a great feature would be a page on your profile that keeps track of all the downloads in a news feed. With who downloaded what and when.

Then instead of being reminded by e-mail, users would check back to their profile daily to keep tabs on reads.

That's horrendous! It's a huge kick in the nads for something to happen like that when all you are trying to do is be of service to the creative community. Don't let it stop you, the good you (and Don of course) do in putting these sites together for us to hang out and share our stuff safely is priceless.

This is so annoying, especially when sites like Inktip and Stage32 spam like CRAZY everywhere.

It's hard to believe that, one year ago, I was bookending a month's solid work with the launch of this site. As I sat there ready to click the button and face the world, all I had was faith in other screenwriters believing we could band together to bring change. It was a true "if you build it, they will come" moment that's been realised with tremendous belief and adoption by screenwriters the world over. This is where I get to say thank you, thank you so very, very much.

To those who believed; Anthony Cawood, P.H. Cook, Wayne Taylor, James Barber, Ruth Maramis, Victor Vera, Katie Burke, Pat Rick, Warren Duncan and Marc B - the first ten people who saw little more than an idea to bring change and signed up because they believed in it. Leading to over 800 more following in their footsteps.

To the Shootin' The Shorts team; Anthony Cawood, David Troop, Steve Miles, Fairly Finfield, Steven Clark, L. Chambers, Zack Zupke, KP Mackie, Phil Clarke, Hamish Porter, Thorsten Loos, Julia Cottle, Elaine Clayton, Karis Watie and Rachel Kate Miller, all led by the amazing J.E. Clarke - who have read so many short scripts and written so many wonderful reviews to help drive nearly 13,942 script downloads.

To the guest bloggers; Simon Mapp, Deen Gill, J.E. Clarke, Alan Mehanna, Tony Cella, 6String Mercenary, Désirée Nordlund, John Hunter, Shawn Davis, Fiona Faith Ross and Stephen Barber - who submitted great articles and earned many of those 215,418 page views.

To the rockstars; J.E. Clarke, Shawn Davis, David Lambertson and P.H. Cook - who have pledged $5 a month to help keep gigabytes of data fast and secure for everyone.

To the 73 members who signup and add to the 127 scripts that are uploaded on average each month and those who download 1,300 scripts on average in that time.

Thank you.

We have been dismissed by our industry and mocked by our peers. However, we've also been supported by Simply Scripts who have promoted what's happening here while simultaneously doing their best to help screenwriters themselves, we have been free to talk on Stage 32 and got a shoutout by Rich "RB" Botto, plus Done Deal Pro have been good enough to let the dialog flow on their forum.

While many have ignored us and some have actively tried to stop us we continue to grow because exposure for creatives isn't something that should be bought with their money, it is something that should be earned with their talent. We built this platform on a simple mantra - "Always free & always fair".

If you are a screenwriter, you are more than welcome to be part of year two. Upload your scripts, create a profile, and get notified of downloads. If you are an industry member, there is no clique, you get to sign-up and browse the 1,500+ scripts we have available, many of which are community favorites, many of which have won reputable rewards, many of which have been featured by Shootin' The Shorts.

There is plenty more to come and it might just be that the revolution has started. Either way, everybody's welcome to join it.

Congrats and happy anniversary! I've had great success since joining last year (no options but a lot of downloads) and really appreciate the blood, sweat, and tears you've put into the site.

All the best for the future!

Thank you. Im glad you're getting downloads and I hope they turn into some results at some point. As a screenwriter and member of the site, I'm effectively in the same boat. I get downloads but no actual bites yet.

I wasn't aware of the site. Great news as a screenwriter, and I'm also hunting for a script to produce. Fortunate timing!

I think it's great what you're doing CJ. I wish you all the best for the second year. I would take part more, but a few things keeps me from being able to. One being a triple grandma all of a sudden!   It didn't take long before my babysitting services are being heavily utilized.

Great to see you sign up, Rene, and I hope you find that script you're looking for.

Congrats on becoming a triple grandma! Hopefully Script Revolution proves to be a good "fire and forget" place to park your material while you mollycoddle the new trio.

Two scripts I have on the site have been found by producers already. Well, the first one was found by it's predecessor STS here to be absolutely correct.

Good job with this, CJ!
