He passed away this past weekend.   I'll be watching the original "The Hitcher" tonight to honor him. John Ryder is one of the most underrated movie villains of all time.

You will be missed.

When I think Rutger Hauer, my thoughts gravitate to Blade Runner.  A truly fascinating screen presence. He’ll be missed...

Blade Runner was definitely one of his very best roles. I fondly remember him from Ladyhawke, and from the bad but fun Blind Fury.

Aww, will miss his great presence.

I'm with you Zack, on his performance in The Hitcher. What a great villain he was.

Also in this lesser known TV movie, Blind Side:

You should check that one out, Zack, if you haven't seen it.

He always made a big impression.
RIP.

I was just about to post this. Total shock.

And I still haven't been afforded the opportunity to see his most famous role... in any of the five cuts that exist.

I may or may not have seen The Hitcher. The only credits I know for certain I've seen are:

Batman Begins

The Rite

TV's True Blood

Never heard of that one. Sounds interesting. Will definitely have to track it down. Thanks, Libby.

A couple favorites that you may not have seen: Flesh & Blood; Hobo with a Shotgun. Classic.

Gonna host a memorial screening at our house this weekend. On the list:

Nighthawks
Flesh+Blood
Eureka
The Osterman Weekend
The Blood of Heroes
Blind Fury
Ladyhawke
Past Midnight

The Hitcher and Split Second would be on there if I hadn't watched both recently. Not sure how many we'll get through, but hard to do justice to such a great career.

My thoughts are more of the same. Stellar actor. His final scene in Blade Runner is really something special. I'm also reminded I need to see Flesh+Blood; been on my mental list for a while, but I've never got around to it. R.I.P. indeed.
