I recently submitted a script to a contest and was informed today that my script has made the semi finals.

What I want to know is if this is good, or do they tell everyone they are in the semi final so we believe we could win so submit more scripts thus spending more money?

I never said I wasn't cynical

No it's not that one. I don't want to name them as they seem reputable and I wouldn't want them thinking I was doubting them and or putting doubts in peoples minds.

I'm new to this so just wondered if it's the sort of thing that happens.

That makes sense. However, you are your worst critic. So maybe I wouldn't doubt that it made the semi's. I wish you the best of luck !

Yeah I think part of it is the doubt on my part, that and the fact I'm so cynical.

Thanks

You can head over to moviebytes.com to check out the contest (and any others that you might consider entering). Be sure to click on them because that star rating is an average of subscores that may be important to you.

Feature-length scripts:
Who Wants to Be a Princess? (Family)
Glass House (Horror anthology)

TV pilots:
"Kord" (Fantasy)
"Mal Suerte" (Superhero)

Additional scripts are listed here.

It is an impossible question to answer without knowing the contest.

Reputable contests don't put everyone in the semi-finals. Most others don't either because if they get found out, they won't get entries the next year.

What some do, which is a bit naughty, is to give most entires an official selected status for the competition. In other words the long list is REALLY long. This gets a lot of folks excited, talking about the competition on social media but doesn't mean anything.
