Stage 32 - I was dormant there for a while and couldn't remember why.  So, I re-activated my account and within days - the "oh yeah....., that's why I left hit me.

My email is bombarded with requests to buy things. For some reason that was a turn-off for me even though they obviously are not forcing you to buy anything - it's just a bit overwhelming. It just screams the only reason we exist is to sell you stuff.

Bac to de-activation me thinks.

I kept getting notifications of new friend request acceptances even though I hadn't used the site in years. Tried changing my password and still got them. So, I finally deleted my account. Maybe I got hacked but it was kind of weird.

That rug really tied the room together.

That is weird - I am now looking to see if I change my email settings to no email notifications if it will work

I still have an account but haven't been active in ages, adverts didn't really bother me too much, at least they were vaguely related to my interests - unlike Facebook and every other social media site.

What got me was some of their 'regulars' on the screenwriting group, holding court and dishing out advice without a script sale, film made, and in at least a couple of cases, no actual evidence they'd ever written a script.

After a couple of heated debates I left

I left Stage 32 many years ago. When I wanted to delete my account, the owner contacted me about why I wanted to leave. He couldn't believe someone wanted to.

As far as ads go, it's kind of creepy. First off, it seems to me every third or so post on FB on my news feed is an ad, so I'm losing interest fast in that place. Second, about a week or so ago, my son texted me something about some Nano digital currency. I didn't click on anything, just read his message. I have an iPhone, made by Apple. I use my computer, also made by Apple to go online. I go to FB who have no connection to Apple, I don't think. Suddenly, I'm starting to get a LOT of crypto currency ads on FB and Google. How does this happen? Different devices and different platforms, but somehow related. Also, sometimes it seems I only have to pause for a few seconds to read an ad and then I get flooded by related ads. I'm almost getting to the point where the whole internet thing has me spooked...

yeah.... there is that. Lots and lots and lots of advice...

Guess I wouldn't mind the adverts so much if they didn't get my goat - spend $XXXX here to pitch to (insert name here) - like... if the dude is really looking for scripts, I have to pay him to pitch him idea why???? Just seems like a sausage factory

I've never found a single benefit to Stage 32 and don't go to that site anymore.  You can turn off their emails, which I did.  Used to get 1-2 a day on pitches, seminars, and other ways to take your money.

Honestly the only two places I've ever had success in people wanting to hire me or produce my work is Simply Scripts and Script Revolution.   And amazingly, both are free to use.  Imagine that.

Some of my scripts:

Bounty (TV Pilot) -- Top 1% of discoverable screenplays on Coverfly
I'll Be Seeing You (short) - OWC winner
The Gambler (short) - OWC winner
Skip (short) - filmed
Country Road 12 (short) - filmed
The Family Man (short) - filmed
The Journeyers (feature) - optioned

Yep - I had to learn to use Google Incognito when researching script background (If I researched hooker for my script Nun The Wise in regular Google - I would have been inundated with a lot of ads my wife would have found questionable.

Everything you do on text, on-line is now just something that is used for ad targeting.

So now they want us to do a pitch, a log line, a synopsis, art cover? It feels like this list keeps growing. At what point do they make us dance for our dinner?

I don't mind the emails really, I just don't click on them.

I will say that I was hired to write "Rage" (feature film available to rent on Itunes, Apple TV, Vudu, Google Play & Amazon Prime, 71% Rotten Tomatoes score) through Stage 32. And while the movie didn't exactly hit it out of the park, I've been able to get more gigs out of it. So, I don't find it completely useless.

I will say there's a lot of know-it-alls there w/ no film credits to speak of. And a lot of the writing gigs posted there aren't legitimate -- most of the time, it's some hack playing pretend like they're doing Franchise Mode on Madden or some shit and they're posting writing gigs for projects that will never exist because none of these people know what the fuck they're doing.

The jobs board is the only thing I check on from time to time, though as you say, most are BS

Wow - amazing that you found something - I happened to look at screenwriting jobs posted in the last 6 months and there was a grand total of 20. Of those maybe two were quasi-legit and none of them paid.

It struck me as really odd that here is a site that sells just a boatload of services to writers, provides paid access to ostensibly serious people, yet none of those serious people are advertising for jobs/scripts on the site itself. I thought - hmmm..... that can't be good.
