Want to write a kick-ass, surreal, cyberpunk infused sci-fi screenplay but can’t get motivated?

Nebula the Motivator is here to help as we celebrate a 40-year-ish anniversary of early 80s Cyberpunk revolution.

Nebula is designed to take you deep into a portal of your mind’s eye, deep where the best ideas of a retro early ‘80s cyberpunk sci-fi screenplay exists. Simply watch Nebula spin his magical coins in his anti-gravity environment as the smooth synth-pop lullabies lull you into a state of somnambulism.

Backstory…

In the early 80s, the birth of a new SciFi/ Artificial Intelligence controlled world in between worlds storyline known as the Matrix sets a Cyberpunk Genre in motion.

Coupled with the computer/gaming marketplace Akihabara, Japan: the sights and sounds help form this futuristic underworld splashed with a luminescent neon paint, yet forever carrying the undertone of a nostalgic '80s pop culture as its base religion or flavour.

“Neuromancer: in 1984 science fiction novel by writer William Gibson is released. Considered one of the earliest and best-known works in the cyberpunk genre, it is the only novel to win the Nebula Award, the Philip K. Dick Award, and the Hugo Award. Set in the future, the novel follows Henry Case, a washed-up hacker hired for one last job, which brings him in contact with powerful artificial intelligence.”

… and of course, the Cyberpunk movement could/would not be complete without the birth of consumer programmable Synth- Keys such as the DX7 manufactured by the Yamaha Corporation in 1983… for that ambient glassy sound the mind so craves. It was the first successful digital synthesizer, and is one of the best-selling synthesizers in history.

As well, the primary form of visual media for transferring those killer ambient Synth-Pop sounds to the lower brain stem would be a motion graphics/video platform to rule them all… MTV, launched in August ’81.

“Elements of a motion graphics project can be animated by various means, depending on the capabilities of the software. These elements may be in the form of art, text, photos, and video clips, to name a few.”

So, we have Cyberpunk, FM synthesis, conceptualization of The Matrix and its controlling (sentient) A.I., and simple yet effective keyframing of static graphics of the early '80s to set in motion an atmospheric presence in society that to this day has never been replicated in regards to its etheric/dream like state of digital ambience.

At least to me that’s the case. So, I decided as of late to mine the internet (Cyberspace) to see if I could find all the elements to successfully create a stripped down crude build of a Sci-fi/Matrix looking, motion graphics, Synth-beat driven video with one major caveat… all the elements had to be completely free for download, and 100% Royalty Free for usage.

It took a few days, but I managed to find all the elements I needed…

Of course, the motion graphic music video should have a story in mind, albeit small, but a simple premise none the less. Here is what I managed to come up with. A man stands at the portal, or womb into the unknown. It (portal) could be a passage to outer, or inner space. It could also be the portal to your mind, or The Matrix: the inner workings of a Cyberspace World that somehow bled through from a micro-cosmic dimension into ours, giving us a glimpse of a strange new world, one we could only fathom exists outside of our minds’ reach till explored.

Nebula Cluster Superb Abundance Creator. Nebula is a mystical traveler who stands in an anti-gravity environment on the eve of the precipice of the unknown as he spins his magical coins to grant you your wish!

Gold Coins represent so much more than just financial abundance. They can represent wealth in all aspects of life: Happiness, Love, Friendship, Health, or even travel to another dimension. Just about anything your heart wishes to receive in great abundance from your own Spirits, Angelic Guides, Higher Self, and the Universal Matrix!

Simply watch Nebula the Inter-dimensional Traveler spin his magical gold coins as you dream and visualize your greatest wish of abundance. The hypnotic state of watching a repeating pattern with ambient synth-pop music will help lull you into a state of relaxation so you can visualize your dreams with clarity and lucidity.

The clip is 10 minutes, broken into 3 segments to change the synth beat and relay a small message. Best viewed in full HD setting with the sound up if you dig ambient synth-pop.

Thanks everyone, Sweet Dreams!

The inspiration comes from another simple motion graphic online:

Thanks for the feedback, Chris! … yeah, definitely not everyone’s cup o’ tea, and I’ll be honest; I’m not sure when this obsessive-compulsive disorder of all thing’s synth-pop, then cyberpunk took hold, but I’m guessing it all started around 1980 when I was about 11 years old and heard this… I was like; “what is this etheric sounding voodoo?”

Aussie’s will most likely appreciate that reference, those guys were somewhat pioneers of the new music scene back then, and The Cars, Blondie, Flock of Seagulls… shit, too many to list.

Now, everything early ‘80s is just compartmentalized in my head somewhere, and I can’t really think of one form of media or idea without the others, and then there’s Heavy Metal Magazine which most likely helped to form the baseline of cyberpunk, and Blade Runner, but that’s for a different write up, lol… cheers!

Lol, guess it was more like a mini documentary, or a filibuster than a snippet of why I did what I did.

It’s all Split Enz’ fault! They got me, err… you, I got…

Never heard “Long White Cloud” before, but I did drive through “Big Sky Country” one summer… Montana.

It was an interesting road trip. As well as a Big Sky I saw: a train wreck, stopped at a Roadhouse and had a Beer, a huge corn-fed beef Burger the size of a softball, and Fries for a meager $3.25, oh… and I saw a billboard for the annual Testicle Festival… all in the same day!

Yes, you heard that right…

Wiki: “A testicle festival is an event held at several small towns where the featured activity is the consumption of animal testicles, usually battered and fried.”

… and, no. No I did not. I don’t think they play Synth-pop at those type of festivals

Eww!! Testicle tasting menu.

I'm heartened you didn't partake.
The Burger and fries sounded more like it.

This sounds completely indistinguishable from a trip to Calgary!

Except they're called Rocky Mountain oysters there, of course...

That’s exactly what I thought!

To the best of my knowledge, it was just a beef burger. In Canada cattle are grain fed and give the beef a certain flavour that’s fairly common to Canadians. In America (at least most parts I believe) cattle are corn fed and the difference in taste is like apples and oranges, so what I thought was a corn fed beef burger could have very well been something entirely testicle, lol…

Seriously, lol… I worked at the Calgary Stampede in the mid ‘80s! … “Whoo! Who’s next! Everyyyyyyy- one’s- a- winnaaaaa!

Then onto the Klondike Days in Edmonton, where carnival goers pan for gold in these little sluice troughs. Holy shit that summer was just a blur, hope to God someone didn’t feed me one of them ‘Oysters’ thinking it was one of them little donuts, lol.

Anyway, Yeah, we left from Vancouver and took the 90 East from Seattle to about Garrison, Montana. Then took the 12 to Helena, then started North onto Havre to get closer to the border when we entered North Dakota. So yes, I would imagine that whole northern Montana, Southern Alberta region is rife with cowboy eating testicle folklore, lol. “You’re not a man till you’ve had your first testicle, boy!” is probably spoken a lot round them parts.

Curiously, we traveled this route (in 1994) when Ted Kaczynski (Unabomber) was still at large and no one was the wiser that Lincoln, Montana would one day become a well known hometown of a infamous domestic terrorist .
At one point on the highway, we we’re only about 42 kilometers away from where he lived in his little cabin in the woods. Being a fan of true crime, I always thought if I had made that trip a few years later, I probably would have broken off the 90 at Missoula, took the 200 North through Lincoln for that creepy vibe and a few pictures of the site, then on my way North again… with no time lost.

Mind you, Ted Bundy did most of his killing spree in the Seattle area from where we started the leg of our journey… Weird summer now that I think about it.

Forgot to add. On the prairies they’re called… Prairie Oysters, of course, lol.
