So not to derail the thread about a super quickie, and the double meanings that has, but just wanted to provide a quick update on my TV drama pilot "Bounty," which originally started out years ago as part of a seven week challenge here on SS and was called "Dead Connection" at the time.

It got scrubbed, and re-written, and re-written some more, and entered in several contests, where it did pretty well.  Ultimately it got on Coverfly's Red List for a while and currently it is in the top 1% of all discoverable scripts on the Coverfly site.

I got an email a couple of days ago that "Bounty" had been selected to be performed at a Virtual Live Table Read this coming Friday, July 1st, beginning at 1 pm PST (3 PM CST, 4 PM EST).  This will be done via Zoom and anyone who is invited and has the zoom link can join in and watch.  I will be doing a Q & A following the live read, so you are welcome to ask questions and actually hear an SS member speak in real life!

They will have actors from LA's Storytellers Conservancy performing the script.  I hope to have the Zoom link either Monday or Tuesday and I will post it here as soon as I have it.  Would LOVE to have some SS representation there and actually get to put a face to a name!  Hope you can join!

Gary

Congrats again, Gary!
Think I'll be sleeping when this is all happening.

Hopefully it'll be on tape for viewing later.

LOL! It seemed rather dead around here, so I was just trying to liven things up.

I did not realize your script started out as a seven week challenge. Do you remember which one it was? Did I read it in the past? I started reading it and somehow it seemed familiar. But, I wasn't sure. That is amazing how well you have done with that script! Huge congratulations! I will definitely try to check in on Friday. Do you recommend reading the script first?

Gosh I can't remember which challenge it was -- I'll have to go back and look.  All I remember is that you wouldn't recognize the original entry compared to the current script!

As to whether to read beforehand -- I don't think it matters, really.  I was going to print it out and read along with the actors, but I think I'd rather focus on the actor's takes on the characters, since I already know the script well enough.

Viewer's choice, I guess!

Oh yeah, that's awesome!

Looking forward to checking it out.

I just re-read the script. I've always liked it, but it's even better now than it was.

Thanks Mark, Steve and Paul!  Even though I've had some shorts produced, this feels even more exciting to me for some reason.  Maybe it won't lead to anything, but hopefully it'll be a blast to watch.

That is awesome!  Post that link.  I'm still busy with keeping my mother from dying, but I'll try to pop in if I can.

Oh Don, I’m so sorry to hear that. I know what you’re feeling and sending nothing but good thoughts to you and your family for peace and comfort right now.

Once I have that link will definitely post here.

You gonna sneak in an appearance for the SS mug? Or will your legal team advise against it?

Haha!  Now this is a VERY good idea!  I may have to find a way to make that happen!

Or, you could use a stunt mug...

j/k

If it can't happen, just *say* that there is a very subtle homage to SS in the pilot.

It'll keep me busy for a while.

Best,

Don

Okay! I have the zoom link for the table read coming up this Friday, July 1st beginning at 1 PM PST  (3 PM CST, 4 PM EST, and apparently for those of you in Australia, 6 am -- but I don't know if that's Friday or Saturday!)

Here’s the link to the zoom:
storytellerszoom.com

Long link in case you need it: https://us02web.zoom.us/j/3108660097?pwd=RkNRMW5xbDRKaWRwN0ZseXZwRTN4Zz09

+++++++++++++
Don's edit
Link to revised script https://www.simplyscripts.net/cgi-bin/Blah/Blah.pl?m-1442891822/s-0/
end edit
+++++++++++++

You'll have to copy and paste in your browser whichever link you use as I am incapable of figuring out how to make the links work from and don't want to screw them up!

Also, make sure if you do join that your camera and audio to your computer is turned off.  By that I mean, no one can see or hear you during the presentation.  I don't know whether it will be opened up to the audience for the Q & A afterwards or if that will be a just a back and forth between me and the actors.

Each of the actors/actresses have had some past TV or movie experience -- while not household names, these aren't people in acting school, they're actual professionals, so that's exciting in and of itself.

Here are the actors/actresses that will be performing if you want to check out their iMDB's:

Wasim No'wani (main lead character)
Kassandra Rosales
zeke Alton
Shaan Sharma
Kevin Palafox
Catherine Lidstone

These actors (with the exception of Wasim) will be playing multiple roles, so it might be helpful to have the script to follow along with.  I'm going to send the latest version of the script to Don and see if he can post it in this thread so you can download and read along if you'd like.

The email I got says it will go from 1-4 pm PST (3 hours), but I can't believe that's really going to be the case.  The script is only 53 pages, so my guess it will take them about 1 and 1/2 to read through the script and another 30 minutes or so for Q & A.   But even  if  you can only join for a little while, I hope you can make it, just to see my ugly mug (meaning my face and not the SS mug, which I'm really going to try and sneak into an appearance!).

Thank you everyone for your support!

Gary

Just getting ready for the q and a. They'll be sending Gary the recorded video. I bet he'll share if you're interested.

It was a cool experience. I could really see the value to having that done for a script.

Hey Gary,

Just for the script, For consistency I'd bold the mini headings as well if you are going to bold the main ones... just a thought

So things like: BATHROOM, STUDY etc.

Really enjoyed it.

Just getting ready for the q and a. They'll be sending Gary the recorded video. I bet he'll share if you're interested.

It was a cool experience. I could really see the value to having that done for a script.

Is the q and a able to be listened to?

Yes, you click the link, then they'll have to approve you to join.

It's the actors, director, Gary and a handful of SSers.

Okay, I keep getting removed. I wonder if this is a name thing as my married name is on Zoom.
Will have to wait till everything comes out later?

They mentioned that the link is also for another meeting later, so a bunch of people are trying to join the wrong meeting. They're culling, trying to keep them out. You probably got caught up in that.

I raised my hand three times to ask Gary questions, but was not allowed to ask or they didn't notice. Then I had to leave.

Yes, Kevin was a standout! It also helps when they change outfits and backgrounds for those of us who are watching, but don't know the material. Helps keeping the characters separate.

Congrats Gary! Awesome cliffhanger too!!!

My questions were:

After having heard the table read, are there anything you feel you definitely need to tweak or change?

Is there any difference in writing a pilot vs a feature? Anything specific to keep in mind?

PS: Inge is the male version of Inga...
