After a great OWC with a lot of excellant entries.... Secret War is my favorite, an interesting concept and beautifully wrote IMO.

I`m also guessing can`t vote for myself!!! Which means I should get a total of...0%
Thanks for the experience and thank you all for your feedback on my script.

I think I got to all scripts - if for some reason I've missed one, I'll go back and review. But as of now, I've voted for the one I enjoyed the most (not mine, haha) and hope to see expanded.

Sinister Plans

Thanks,
Stewart

Blood roots

Hope nobody votes for their own.

Once revealed I would be happy to share detailed reads with anybody - mine will need it.

I have only been in three OWC's and so far their have been three different voting methods. Poor Don, it must be a bind. Of the three I prefered the one used last sept where the writers gave a 1,2,3. Just saying.

Thanks everyone for making this an intense experience.

Cheers

I didn't have a clear favorite, so I have to go back and re-read some. Probably between Sinister and Secret, but I'll reread Blood too.

Read them all.

Did not write one this go, work necessitated a pass.

So, I'm looking at this list more as a producer, than a writer...
If these 24 scripts were put on my desk, the question would be...
"Which of these could I see being developed into a movie?"

And yeah, there's one that I could "see the movie" more than any other.
Act breaks. Character arcs. Genre twists. The complete package popped in my head.
Even now a couple days later, it's still pretty strong in my mind...

Hellfire.

My top four in no order were Pagan Man, Blood Roots, Walk on the Wicked Side and Witch's Flame.

WITCH'S FLAME gets my overall vote for this challenge.

Mice and Monsters is my favorite.  Needs a (few) tweaks, and I don't see it as expandable to feature length.  But I think it had the most going for it - in terms of lasting emotional impact, and an undercurrent of irony that really works.

Not sure I should take the poll as I've not read all the entries but from the ones I've read I'd plump for Blood Roots.

Play it how you feel, Alffy. Personally, I need to put my mind at ease that I'm not ruining chances for anyone by not reading their script before voting.

This challenge was more doable for most because we didn't have forty scripts to deal with, but even still, life can get in the way so I understand if people need to cut there reads back and still get a vote in.

Voted lol.

I would love to read all the entries and still might get chance but it's difficult with two jobs, TV, Playstation and the wife.  I never could juggle.

I don`t wanna play the sympathy vote, but  did I tell you my back story....
I came across to America on a canoe made of straw with my dog skip( I did all the rowing!) in search of the American dream, upon reaching land, I was captured and sold  to be used in a prostitution ring, didn`t complain did what I had to, although the men where a little rough. I managed to escape  with only herpes to my name and walked into the nearest library( as you do) and got on the nearest computer, after googling hardcore porn, up pops "simply scripts" and the OWC. Well then I used my family history as a story(my mom is a witch), (my dad is mechanical engineer) to create the 10 pages that i presented to you.....
Well it works on American Idol!!

Mark
p.s  the above story is not true.... My dog`s name was scrappy.

Voted so i could see the results. Only read about six, so kinda unfair. I didn't enter or I would've read them all.

Plus, I know who wrote the one I voted for, yet, not playing any faves. Just thought it was the most original.

Sad to see Pagan Man is not getting any love. I thought it had the best legs to continue on to what could be a good feature. It just wasn't my fave 10 pages.

I hate to be that guy to vote for a third party candidate. It's like a wasted vote.

An hour ago, I expected to vote for Blood just to break the tie. But I figured I better re-read. And in all good conscience, I have to vote for Secret War. I liked it the first time, but on second read, I really appreciated it. Even more impressive, I think, based on the formality of the dialogue, is that this seems to be a relatively new writer. Excellent work if it's a veteran, but really outstanding if a new writer!

Relative to the number of entries, this OWC had a healthy turn out for reviews. Of course, it helps that several members who didn't enter still did reviews, but a good turn out, I thought.

My top tier is:

Cherry Bomb for writing style
Blood Root for coolest single scene
Hellfire for use of witch technology
Dry Spell for plain fun
Mitch for memorable character introduction (followed by The Purifier)
The Secret War for the biggest canvas
Of Mice and Monsters for most unusual idea
Witch Hunt for twisting of history

But I have only one vote...
Cherry Bomb!

My vote went to Sinister Plans. I didn't have an issue with the girl's friend leaving her with her "uncle." I don't think a girl at the age would doubt when an adult shows up claiming to be her friend's uncle.

It was an extremely quick and easy read. I didn't think it was flawless, but I would definitely read on past the tenth page.

I guess the polls are still open.

The envelope, with my favorite, please…

1) BLOOD ROOTS —  Good setup and despite the early stumble, the story packs a lot of variables (mom, son, grandma, institution) and has steam heading toward the next 90 pages. The writing is tight and the writer in command.

Excellent job and congratulations to all who participated.

I'm really excited and happy with the turn out on Blood Roots!!!

I didn't want to raise too much of a ruckus that might cause some people to go

"meh".

I'm glad my semi-logic WORKED!!!!  ...

Way to go BLOOD ROOTS!!!!

Although nothing has changed as far as my top four goes:

Remember:

PAGAN MAN

WALK ON THE WICKED SIDE

WITCH'S FLAME

OF MICE AND MONSTERS

***All of the above are stong works in progress.

***Witch's Flame is a personal Baby that I would invest money and time into.

Not sure why I never saw this.  Thanks, Bert!  I appreciate it.  I've been asking for awhile now and no one filled me in.

My vote easily goes to Secret War with Sinister Plans a bit behind.

I have to say, this was a real tough choice.  There were a lot of really great scripts here, and would happily vote for some of the scripts that haven't gotten any love yet either.

But in the end I had to give another one to Of Mice and Monsters, something about the concept and execution really struck a chord with me.

Congrats to everyone who participated though.  I know from bitter first hand knowledge how hard it can be to get one of these done (since I couldn't), so a very sincere well done to you all.
