How's this for some good news to start the thread...

New novel announcement just yesterday!

fairy-tale-9781668002179-lg

Due in September 2022. Here's a bit about the book:

Charlie Reade looks like a regular high school kid, great at baseball and football, a decent student. But he carries a heavy load. His mom was killed in a hit-and-run accident when he was ten, and grief drove his dad to drink. Charlie learned how to take care of himself—and his dad. Then, when Charlie is seventeen, he meets Howard Bowditch, a recluse with a big dog in a big house at the top of a big hill. In the backyard is a locked shed from which strange sounds emerge, as if some creature is trying to escape. When Mr. Bowditch dies, he leaves Charlie the house, a massive amount of gold, a cassette tape telling a story that is impossible to believe, and a responsibility far too massive for a boy to shoulder.

Because within the shed is a portal to another world—one whose denizens are in peril and whose monstrous leaders may destroy their own world, and ours. In this parallel universe, where two moons race across the sky, and the grand towers of a sprawling palace pierce the clouds, there are exiled princesses and princes who suffer horrific punishments; there are dungeons; there are games in which men and women must fight each other to the death for the amusement of the “Fair One.” And there is a magic sundial that can turn back time.

A story as old as myth, and as startling and iconic as the rest of King’s work, Fairy Tale is about an ordinary guy forced into the hero’s role by circumstance, and it is both spectacularly suspenseful and satisfying.

Good scoop, Warren!
Didn't know this one was on the horizon. Sounds a bit too dungeons and dragons for me, but then I never thought I'd buy dragons at all until GOTs.

Interspersed with time travel. Very interesting.

This info literally flooded my Facebook page yesterday. Seems everyone was taken by surprise. I've had my pre-order for Gwendy's Final Task in for awhile and pre-ordered this last night.

It's a chunky one as well, just over 600 pages. I can't wait.

I'm looking forward to it as well. I would say I'm not a huge fantasy person, but I LOVED Eyes of the Dragon, so I'm eager for this one as well.

He almost writes faster than I can read, lol!

I'll get sucked in again, lol. I grew up a huge King fan in the late 70s and early 80's. I often buy his new books and end up disappointed. But he does kid stories incredibly well. The Institute was a recent novel that was effective. Not great, but held my interest til the end. I still get excited about sitting down with a 600 page King tome, but some of that is nostalgia. If this new one stinks, I'll vent with Pia as usual!

We usually don't agree on a lot. I personally wasn't too impressed with The Institute. I didn't hate it or anything, but it didn't suck me in like so many of his other works do.

So, anyone else finished yet? Thoughts? I liked it, but I like all of his work, pretty much. Not at the top of my all-time favorites list though.

Finished yesterday and I didn't want it to end.

*No Spoilers*

The story was top-notch fantasy and (for me) one of his best ever. I listened to the Audible version and it was by far the best narration I've ever heard after 80+ books. The narrator (Seth Numrich) gave incredible voice characterizations and sound effects like no other.

He used to wear them a lot, but there's usually a character that wears them as well. You can even buy t-shirts that say, My other shirt is a blue chambray. I guess it's his way of keeping reminding himself and/or the readers that he always will be a blue-collar guy no matter how successful he is.
