This is more of a rant than anything else... and MAY CONTAIN SPOILERS

I'll preface this by saying that I am a massive, long time King fan from way back. I have everything he's ever written on my book shelf and am only 8 books (9 if you include Holly) away from finishing his entire catalogue.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

This trilogy consists of two novella's (one written by Stephen King and Richard Chizmar and one by Chizmar alone) and one novel (by both King and Chizmar).

The first novella, Gwendy's Button Box was okay, not a whole lot there but enjoyable enough. I thought at the time I would read it again depending on how the other two books went.

The second novella, Gwendy's Magic Feather, was a boring slog to get through. I really didn't like the fact that it used a well-known King location (Castle Rock) as a setting as it really just felt shoehorned in. I could forgive it in the previous book because at least it held my attention.

The third novel, Gwendy's Final Task, was complete and utter garbage. Again using places like Castle Rock, Derry and even bringing The Dark Tower into the story to try give it some weight. I've always known King was quite left leaning in his politics but the way this novel tries to shove left wing politics, ideas and ideology down your throat just makes for a real slog of a read. I completely accept that people have different ideas and politics but this is so unapologetically weighted one way that I feel it goes out of its way to alienate a lot of readers. Hated every minute of this book except for the ending where Gwendy dies... it's a fictional character so I can say that!!! At least we know she wont be coming back for another novel.

All in all, just a waste of time IMO. I definitely wont be revisiting these ever again, Gwendy's Final Task has now unseated The Tommyknockers as King's worst novel of all time in my rating list.

Thanks! I thought about buying it, but the fact that another writer wrote the second one turned me off for a moment and then I forgot.

Yes, don't waste you time or money. At best I might recommend reading Gwendy's Button Box as a stand alone novella. The other two are not worth your time.
