I read Fox now finally ordered a new mini-season of The X-Files with 6 new episodes. Anybody got some more info about it and the plot involved?

Mulder and Scully, a phrase I continually hear in a strong female Welsh accent, are returning, along with Chris Carter.

Big nose, sorry, Mulder was on Letterman the other night. Not literally, he's not Madonna. He was sitting beside him. The Smoking Man is also set to return. A surprise to me as I was sure he died the last time round. Still, the X Files can get away with stuff even Lost would shy from.

Vince Gilligan wrote several episodes back in the day. I expect he's a bit too busy these days. But you never know.

Apart from that there's little other news about it.

If it's anything like the Twin Peaks situation then Carter will storm off once the budget gets limited.

Dave, Mr. Lynch sir, please come back!

Vince has said he'd love to come back in a limited fashion if his schedule will allow it.

firing up old shows seems to be the fad right now. Craig T Nelson is coming back for a run of Coach. Netflix is firing up Full House. MacGuyver is coming back. CBS is toying with ideas for another Star Trek series. Among others.

I wonder if this is going to be the startup to a reboot, like mulder and scully passing the torch to a new set of younger agents. Duchovny ruled out the possibility of a full comeback to a full length season because he feels Anderson and himself have grown too much as actors in the meantime for the roles of mulder and scully.

X-Files should be left the fuck alone if you ask me.  Arguably the greatest television show of all time, but come on.

I've seen all 9 seasons more times than I count, along with the movies.  It doesn't need to be brought back.

It fell off in the latter seasons anyway, and the wrap up wasn't the best.

I'd sign that as a big fan of the original series, but on the other side, after Fringe is over as well, I'm just taking anything in that genre I can get which is not much nowadays.

No way they brought it back to leave it like this.  Too much truth still out there.

There's no prideful confidence in leaving something in a To be continued... state when there's no guarantee of more?

We shall see.

Only saw the first three of the new episodes here in Germany, and I have to say, I'm a bit shocked. These new episodes feel like a satire of the original series so far.

I can't say I agree. But I can see why you might think this..

I haven't seen the sixth episode yet, which I believe is the last, but I've seen all the others.

It was a rare pleasure to see Mulder and Scully again.

I was amused to see Rhys Evans as a major character in an episode. (Murray? Present!)

Shame his make up was somewhat lacking, as I thought the idea for his story was quite a good one.

There was a few more things that didn't quite work so well, but overall I enjoyed myself.

Some of the stories were a lot better than others, but most of them were alright. I enjoyed seeing them as older, but perhaps not much wiser.

It's not the best telly in the world, and nowhere near as good as expectations, as they were naturally sky high, but it was worth the time. And I hope it returns.

First of all, there was a lack of a proper intro in my opinion. How do they end up at the FBI again? Have they always been at the FBI? What about Scully's medical career? Mulder retired in a wooden hut? No, they are FBI agents again now. Okay...
Second, the stories seemed satirical. Some TV guy calls them and invites them to come look at a UFO. Free energy, of course, everybody knows that tech existed for 60 years. What? Next episode, Scully thinks it's a good idea to take DNA samples of everyone, including herself, and finds alien DNA. I mean, wouldn't she have had that idea 10 years ago? And now that third episode with the 'lizard-man' is so idiotic, I was close to switching channels. Sorry, but I think they are finally burying the X-Files with this reunion.

I'm with Ren, I'm quite enjoying it even though some of the plots may leave a little to be desired... What I'm loving the most so far is seeing Mulder & Scully back together... Their relationship was always one of the key things that made the X Files so good.

Of the first three episodes...
1) Agree a little with Equinox but I just thought the whole episode was a little rushed, which was a shame. Had me worried for the next 5 to come.
2) This felt like a proper X File and I loved the ending, was pretty dark too with the caesarian and such.
3) Lizard man, there's a few episodes like this dotted around in the original nine series and I think the creators have earned the right to have a comedic episode or two... But I can totally understand why this won't be liked by all... Personally once I'd figured out it was one of 'those' episodes then it was all good and very funny with a great juxtaposition of the standard shapeshifter story to boot.

Is it as good as I wan't or remember, no... But that's because my memory is clouded and I remember all the great episodes and my memory has blanked the poor ones (last two series entirely) and the avg ones... Am I loving having it back... Yes I am!

And I hope that it's sucessful enough in the US to warrant some more episodes... Say 6-10 every couple of years... That'd be fine!

I recently purchased X-Files on BR, seasons 1-9.  The quality is outstanding, and it's totally worth the cash if you're a die hard fan.
