Yeah, it's everywhere. Black people crying about injustices. Countries made to apologise. I'm tired of hearing the constant whining. I like black people, I love black people. The world would be a very shitty place without black people. I love the music, the culture, the food, the ready ability to laugh... but they have some issues they need to figure out. That's where all this shit starts... at home.

They need to look within themselves and see that they must first get over the second rate citizen sentiment they grow up with. They must see through the smoke screen. The way it appears now is that white people enslaved black people... why isn't it taught in schools that black people did plenty of enslaving themselves?

You might think that's a strange thing to say... but twist the logic a little and you'll see that only being taught about white people enslaving black people, that this makes it appear as though we constantly dominated and puts black people into a feeling of being not as good... not as equal.

Imagine teaching about black people's own great history? Not just black students... but make it a part of the curriculum. Show the whole truth. Show black people whipping white men to reap harvests faster and build buildings. Show them being worked to death. Wouldn't that have an effect of stopping the inferiority hurdle? Wouldn't that also have an effect on the white mindset too?

I didn't think of this shit myself by the way. I learned this through talking to black people. I would say friends, but I'm too old for friends... I just got people I know.

So, now I'm whining because I said lol?

All I know is that I study all history as a hobby. And I am one of those people who says constantly that we are only taught half not all of African-american history. My fave being the 'Free people of color' that we never learn about. They had black slaves too.

I know white people were slaves..they had to be...no black people to enslave or any other race for that matter. It was due to white people escaping so much and blending in that made white people take blacks from their homes in the first place.

But I do think it's funny that whenever a Black person is cast in a role suddenly it's an appeasement  and has nothing to do with them earning the part like everybody else. And I love it when white people get so up in arms about it.....shall we say whining?

You misunderstand my point on white slaves. It wasn't white people enslaving white people. It was black people enslaving white people and taking them back to Africa where they were paraded, naked, in the markets and sold. Many of the white people were taken from ships but others were also taken from coastline villages in England. In Africa the slaves were known as Red Legs, which started out a humorous joke on the colour their legs turned when working the fields.. but soon became derogatory.

For some, they could buy their way out. (families paying ransoms)... but for most, the poor white men and women were enslaved in Africa and forced to do what slaves have to do. The better looking ones would be taken as sex slaves and used around the homes that had floors made of gold. Africa was once a very powerful nation... but it was built wholeheartedly on the backs of slaves. Not just white slaves. Black people also enslaved black people. In Africa.

This is due to the over all education of the nation. Over all as in white and black. We're all taught the same shit in state schools, right? We're taught about how the powerful white man enslaved the dumb, tribal black man. Everyone is taught that same thing. So, as a black child, what does that do to your mindset? Indeed, as a white child what does that do to yours?

If we were also taught that the black man enslaved the white man then that would completely reverse the psychology. The black child would not feel inferior and the white child wouldn't feel superior. We'd start out as equal from the outset. Everybody enslaved everybody.

I'm talking on a subconscious level. The black child needs to conquer the inferiority complex that comes from being educated that the civilised white man, enslaved the backward, tribal black man. You need to understand what the subtle nuances of that false education does to the mindset. Both black and white.

While this belief is perpetuated then racism can never die. It can only ever breed further segregation. Black people hating white people for racism, is actually racist in itself.

Many believe this is by design. To keep us all fighting each other rather than realising what our true enemy is. To keep us from banding together and stamping out all of the lies that hold us, as the human race, back... that prevents us evolving to the next level of societal evolution.

Yeah, that's where I got this from. I didn't know this myself. I was pointed in the right direction by black people I know and have met over the years. I grew up in inner city care, prison etc... so I've met a lot of interesting people. I used to go to  education classes and the whole class would turn into a massive debate. Race was always a big topic. I picked up information and read... with history you've got to read between the lies and bear in mind what you're reading is often just some historian's interpretation.

I agree again, you can't. It's all down to individual interpretation. It's hard being white and talking about these type of things. It's very easy to take certain keywords and twist them around to a new meaning.

I am open-minded enough to look at things from different sides. I always have been. Sometimes at the expense of me not having many black friends because of it, I Don't judge on skin color but content of character.

It happened...we know it happened....and it was terrible. Further than that most people really didn't care enough to look further. I just happen to be a nerdy history buff bookworm. But that was mostly due to being an outcast all my life. Books were my friends.

Therein lies the difference. Your experiences will be different to a poor black man's. It will also be different to a poor white man's. Our only divide is the class system. A poor white man and a poor black man are exactly the same thing. Treated exactly the same way by the system. I should know... I've been through it. I've seen black police beating black men and I've seen white police beating white men. So where is the racism? I didn't see any. I've seen plenty of hate for the poor though.

Idris is a bit good looking for Roland.

I've only just started the Dark Tower saga. I only started reading it because I'm somewhat fascinated by the role the "Tower" has played in numerous stories through the ages.

Can't say I'm that impressed with it, at the moment. He was pretty young when he wrote it, and it shows to be honest. It all feels a little silly.  

Stick with it, it's an amazing piece of work. The forth book is worth the wait. My personal favorite of all time.

The impression I got from the books when I tried to get through them around 20 years ago was that they were a drug-fuelled ramble. The story didn't seem to be going anywhere... like the author also didn't have a clue where he was going with it. The Stand was a little like that but had enough structure and enough things going on that I actually really enjoyed it.

The first two certainly seem like that.
Someone earlier said the films are basically starting from book 3....I can see why as I've read two novels that are little more than character introductions.

Just finished The Gunslinger. I'm intrigued and will be pushing forward with the series (after Cormac McCarthy's Blood Meridian). As much as I enjoyed it, I understand the previous comments. One of the characters practically says outright in the final chapter that everything that happens up until that point is basically a setup for what's to come. I don't mind, though, as the book was very short and I imagine it'll be helpful to have so much backstory out of the way going forward.

On the casting, I think Elba is a solid choice for Roland. The character is sort of a vehicle for the story more than anything. I think that's sort of the point as many characters throughout make note of his sort of "blankness," for lack of a better word. Really, anyone could've played him, but I think Elba's got enough presence and gravitas to keep things interesting. I can see him as sort of an archetypical Western character.

McConaughey as the man in black (among many, many other names) is just fucking outstanding. I can totally see him in the role. Can't imagine why there would be an issue there.

Stoked to see how things shape up.

Just heard that they are turning the forth book (my personal fav) into a 10 to 13 episode series.

I wonder who they will cast for young Roland, any thoughts?
