This whole album is fantastic. I can't think of a band out that can touch these guys, not newer band anyways.
Brandon Flowers just has this... melodic voice and so much to say and you can feel it in every song on this sucker.
The music is a great throw back to 80's culture and it shows where these guys get their inspiration from... guys like -- Echo & the bunnymen, simple minds, Inxs, Morrissey, U2, The Cure, Depechmode and so many others are just littered thru out the tracks.
I think rock is finally making a come back & these guys are the ones leading the way thru, I believe. I noticed, while watching the vma's, that Fall out boy won viewers choice... & that made me think... did they actually get that much air time? Not when stacked against the shit ass rap music... Not against 50 cent and R-kelly and whoever and whoever... But yet they still walked away the winners. That showed me people still care about real music. Real artist and music with meaning.
Now back to the killers... I can't think of a band that's come out in the last, even, 10 years with the exception of Third Eye Blind and Flickerstick who speaks to me more than THE KILLERS do... They are easily up there with U2, Matthew Good Band and The Who for favorite band on my list.
I just hope the Cold Play's can just go away for awhile and let some real talent in the mix, cause these guys rock!
So in closing... if you haven't bought it yet... go out and do so, it's worth every cent.
5 out of 5 -- Actually better than U2's How to dismantle and atomic bomb cd.
I try not to write negative reviews too often since I know music is subjective and all, but in the Killers' case I'll make an exception. I think these guys have to be as good a candidate as any for 2005's award for the annoying pop/rock band that inexplicably achieves massive popularity with its debut album (maybe we can call it the Maroon 5 award).
What's especially irritating about the Killers is that they specialize in the kind of sleek, overproduced songs that you know are incredibly stupid but get stuck in your head anyway, so I wind up with these terrible tunes bouncing around my brain for days.
Is there a stupider lyric in history than "Somebody told me that you had a boyfriend who looked like a girlfriend that I had in February of last year." WHAT? Is that supposed to be clever? God, I don't even know anymore.

Though earth and man are gone, I thought the cube would last forever. I WAS WRONG.
It actually is clever if you listen to the album as a whole and then judge it... The album actually tells a really good story... the lyrics are just a vehicle for the story to be told. I liked Brandon Flowers as a vocalist in his last band, but since he's been with the Killers they are just thru the roof.
They are far from a pop band... however, if pop is the only "vehicle" we have in todays world for good music and great guitar, I'll take it.
Hell, I was impressed with Kelly Clarkson's preformance live... that girl can put on a show. I don't like her music, persay and I don't even like her... but I can honestly say she has alot of energy and drive.
As for the Killers... they are hot! I can't think of another band, right now, who can match their energy and skill in producing good lyrics and sound.
For instance... The line "I'VE GOT SOUL BUT I'M NOT A SOLDIER" in "ALL THESE THINGS THAT I'vE DONE" that's brilliant stuff... because it has a diverse meaning but means everything he wants people to think it means. << Do you get that?
In the age of rap, where everyone has to be a soldier to be tough or cool or hard or whatever... you got this great anthem that drives and pulses out at you... It's a rockin' ass tune.
You'll see the KILLERS go very far... very very far and with bands like U2, Morrissey, OASIS and several others hyping them up and taking them on tour... it's gonna be a great year for these guys.
However, I do respect your opinion on their music... it's just not for you. I'm guessing smoke and mirrors rap is more your speed... I do wish you'd listen to more than just 2 of their tracks before you form an opinion, though. People did that with MODEST MOUSE... liked FLOAT ON and then found out... wait... his music isn't all pop and catchy jargon? Well fuck him them, they suck! When truth be told, they rock balls too.
See with rap... you can't put up an argument such as I have above... because the noise doesn't catter to it. It's not worth even defending in it's infant structure.
"I'll TAKE YOU TO THE CANDY SHOP.. LET YOU LICK THE LOLLY POP"
that's just absurd, like all rap is...
Or what about this one...
"I'VE GOTTA BE DOWN WITH JAY Z CAUSE HE's GOT ME JUMPIN' LIKE JUMPER CABLES"
What the fuck is thaT? That is for shit! & anything like KONYA WEST is also shit!
As a matter of fact... I'll just say this in defense... every single line that comes out of a no talented, smoke and mirrors, rapper is worse than "SOMEDOBY TOLD ME" I've seen rappers say some of the most ignorant shit and people think it's cool.
Hell, these guys even alter the English languge and people still think it's cool... I'll take me a sombody told me over that any day... atleast you got something to think about there, with rap you don't have to... it's cut and dry... simple beats with simple mind dumbing lyrics about drugs, prostitution, shoes, whores, bitches and hoes and guns... don't forget the guns.
I didn't realise they have a song called "Andy, You're a Star"!! And "Believe me, Natalie" - My sister wants it for her birthday, actually. Now she can think of me when she plays it, lol!
The album is called Hot Fuss, by the way. It's an awesome CD, actually. There are some songs that I could take or leave, but All The Things That I've Done is my favorite right now, I love the break-down part where it's just this beat and "I've got soul but I'm not a soldier" with a choir in the background. What drew me to the music wasn't the lyrics; the first of them I heard was "Somebody told me that you had a boyfriend who looked like a girlfriend that I had in February of last year," but the music was so different from what was out there.
Other than the one song I have ill feelings towards this band, they are Good Charlotte without the female following of worthless/mindless freaks... I mean fans.
Basically new music is sh*t anymore.
It's so bad Backstreet Boys came back, It's so bad Tommy Lee became a singer, it's so bad Hilary Duff is considered a star, it's so bad Lindsay Lohan has a DEAL and a huge chest (I think the movies bought her that though. If she writes a book page 15 will say Mean Girls bought me some new tits and the book will end at about page 20 because it'll be a pop up book for grown men.)
I like some rap (Mostly the kind of rap that plays with words and basically makes fun of itself.) White rappers emerge here and there and for the most part they are more enoyable than the ones who take it way to serious.
In the Killers video, the western type one does that sign say Killersluts?
It's a quality album. If you've heard the whole album you know the ones that stick out but some of the songs sound maybe too similar. But I think every band has that problem these days.
Usually I find I don't like at least a couple of songs on album, but I can honestly say I like every single song. "Change Your Mind" has gotten the most repeated playings from me, I sorta creamed myself when I heard it being played in the trailer for "Thank You For Smoking".
I also really like "Everything Will Be Alright", and how utterly uneasy it can make you feel.
I like the killers. And, in my opinion, they're not pop. They're like, um, glamorous indie rock and rollers, or somethin'. Or are they?! In any case, I hafta cut this short, I've a thrift store magazine to get back to.
